From Whistler’s huge terrain, deep powder and cool village, to Reykjavik's awe-inspiring geysers, waterfalls and volcanoes, both destinations are breathtaking on their own, but together offer the perfect fusion of two incredible holidays in one.

It’s easy to travel between these two prime locations with Icelandair’s free stopover in Iceland between the UK and Canada at no extra cost. Better yet, you can fly from London Heathrow, Gatwick, Manchester or Edinburgh.

At Ski Safari, we’ll cover the planning so that you can sit back, relax, and enjoy the trip of a lifetime.

Skiing in Whistler

Consistently ranked among the best ski resorts in the world, Whistler boasts over 8,000 acres of skiable terrain and more than 200 trails for all ability levels. And with over 10 metres of snowfall each season, you're guaranteed amazing conditions.

Take in panoramic alpine views from the Peak 2 Peak Gondola, the world’s highest and longest lift of its kind, linking Whistler and Blackcomb mountains. Off the slopes, thrill-seekers can enjoy ziplining, snowshoeing, and snowcat tours through Whistler’s backcountry.

Despite its international reputation, Whistler Village retains a friendly, small-town vibe. The village is car-free and walkable, with free shuttle buses making it easy to get around.

Sightseeing in Reykjavik

Fly directly to Reykjavik and experience the wonderful views of Iceland’s south coast. Winter visitors have a chance to witness the Northern Lights, while spring travellers can enjoy extended daylight and spot Iceland’s iconic wildlife.

From impressive geysers to the stunning Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss waterfalls, Iceland is a land of natural wonders. If you want to visit the famous black sand beaches, head to Reynisfjara’s basalt cliffs, made from cooled lava. Or visit the iconic Blue Lagoon and bathe in the soothing powder-blue, mineral-rich thermal waters. Nature lovers will love whale-watching tours from the Old Harbour, and photographers - keep your eyes peeled for Atlantic puffins, Iceland’s signature bird!

You’ll also find incredible views in the idyllic coastal village of Vík í Mýrdal and the winding Fjaðrárgljúfur Canyon, which are great examples of Iceland’s dramatic landscape.

With Reykjavik’s compact size, safety, and easy access to unforgettable sights, we couldn’t think of a better city to add to your ski trip.

"Skiing in Whistler has long been a favourite of mine, and taking advantage of a free stopover in Reykjavík is an extra bonus. You can enjoy epic skiing in Canada before heading off to the spectacular landscapes of Iceland. This is an extraordinary trip of a lifetime."

Suggested itinerary

This sample itinerary is our suggestion of how you could divide your time between Whistler and Reykjavik. All our ski safaris are completely customisable, whether that means more skiing or more sightseeing, so don’t hesitate to contact our friendly and knowledgeable team to get the ball rolling.

Day 1

Leave the UK and fly to Vancouver. Take a two-hour transfer up the scenic Sea to Sky Highway to Whistler. Check into your accommodation in Whistler to begin your twin-centre holiday.

Day 2

Warm up your ski legs by staying local and exploring all that Whistler has to offer. We encourage intermediate to advanced skiers to enjoy the free mountain hosting by using local guides who have skied the resort for decades.

Day 3

If it's a bluebird day, head to the Peak Chair for stunning views of the Black Tusk, remnants of an ancient volcano, and discover some of North America’s longest runs. Advanced skiers will love The Saddle, a wide, steep black run, and Shale Slope, a glorious bowl. Once you've worked up an appetite, stop for some fine dining at Steeps Grill and Wine Bar, inside the Roundhouse Lodge Whistler, at the top of the Whistler Gondola.

Day 4

It’s time to explore Blackcomb. For intermediate skiers wanting to blast down wide runs, head up the Crystal Ridge Express and try Ridge Runner and Rock and Roll. For a lunchtime stop, Glacier Creek Lodge is our favourite.

Day 5

If you’re looking for long sweeping terrain, immaculately groomed pistes, golden sunshine, boot-deep powder… head to Harmony Bowl, there’s no better place on earth. If you’re feeling brave, take on Gun Barrels on the ridge of Harmony Bowl and dive into a black diamond tree-lined gulley and pop out near the Harmony lift.

Day 6

Time to try some mid-mountain fun. An often-overlooked chairlift is the Garbanzo Express, which gives access to some of the quietest pistes on Whistler Mountain. When you’re ready to move on, head up to the Peak 2 Peak Gondola and ski everything from the Jersey Cream chairlift.

Day 7

For the grand finale, head up to the Blackcomb Glacier, where a 10-kilometre run awaits. The spectacular sight of the glacier opening poking out through the snow will make a cracking photo. Celebrate your last day skiing at Merlin’s Bar & Grill, or head to Whistler Village for Longhorn Nachos and a pitcher of beer.

Day 8

Check out of your accommodation and take a 2-hour transfer back to Vancouver. Fly overnight to Reykjavik.

Day 9

Arrive in Reykjavik early in the morning. We'll arrange an early check-in, so you'll have plenty of time to freshen up and rest before exploring the city's many attractions for the day. In the afternoon, we recommend heading to the luxurious Blue Lagoon spa to rest tired ski legs, just a short bus transfer outside of the city.

Day 10

We suggest booking the classic Golden Circle Day tour, where you’ll visit the Þingvellir National Park, a rift valley between tectonic plates. Followed by a stop at the Geysir Geothermal Area, before heading to the mesmerising Gullfoss Waterfall and finishing at the Keria Crater, a striking volcanic crater with a vivid blue lake.

Day 11

Time to head home from the trip of a lifetime with just a 3-hour flight back to the UK.

Customer Reviews

What our customers say about Whistler & Reykjavik Ski & City Safari.

The Whistler ski and Reykjavík stopover worked brilliantly for us as we’d always wanted to visit Iceland. We managed to fit in three excursions — Blue Lagoon, Golden Circle and Northern Lights — which was slightly ambitious, and an extra night would have helped as we had an early start for the flight home. Still, a fantastic combination, not least because your ski wardrobe is already sorted for t…
