Whistler and Vancouver have been an inseparable pair for outdoor enthusiasts since Whistler Blackcomb welcomed skiers in 1966 - nearly 60 years ago! Since then, the popular ski destination has blossomed into North America’s largest ski resort with over 8,000 acres of skiable terrain.

Just a short, scenic drive away along the famous Sea-to-Sky Highway, Vancouver isn’t just your gateway to the mountains; it’s a dynamic, coastal city filled with amazing food, stunning parks, and outdoor adventures.

This ski safari combines Whistler and Vancouver into one package, with flights, transfers and your ski extras all taken care of by our team of experts. Many of us here at Ski Safari have lived in or regularly visit Whistler (being the first destination we launched with some 30 years ago), and we've used our knowledge to put together a day-by-day suggested itinerary to help you make the most out of your visit.

As always, our ski safaris are entirely flexible and can be tailored to your group size, budget, skiing ability or interests. Contact us today to design your dream snowy getaway.

Whistler

Whistler truly lives up to its reputation as the ultimate ski destination. The resort’s Peak 2 Peak Gondola is the world’s longest and highest gondola ride (4.4 kilometres long and 435 metres above the valley!) and connects Whistler’s two huge mountains. Skiers of all abilities and interests will love exploring wide-open bowls, tree-lined runs, and terrain parks tailored to every level.

Off the slopes, Whistler Village will welcome you with a friendly, laid-back atmosphere. Enjoy excellent dining, shopping, and a lively après-ski scene, or try one of the many non-ski activities like snowmobiling, ziplining, or relaxing in a spa after a day of adventures. For evening entertainment, the Vallea Lumina is an immersive nighttime experience that displays magical coloured lights through an enchanted forest walk.

Vancouver

Tucked just behind Vancouver Island, which borders the North Pacific Ocean, Vancouver City is a lively and fascinating destination surrounded by water and pine forest. If you’re feeling energetic, cycle or stroll around Stanley Park’s Seawall, kayak in False Creek, or walk across the famous Capilano Suspension Bridge.

To explore the heart of the city, wander through historic Gastown with its indie galleries, cosy cafés, and live music, or explore buzzing neighbourhoods packed with craft beer pubs and great shopping on Robson Street. And if you’re up for it, catch an ice hockey game and dive into Canada’s sporting passion.

"I’ve been skiing for decades and Whistler remains one of the finest resorts I’ve visited. And afterwards, there’s nothing quite like coming down to sea level to enjoy Vancouver’s vibrant streets, great food, and ocean views. It’s the original pairing I’ve come back to time and again."

Suggested itinerary

This sample itinerary is our suggestion for dividing your time between skiing in Whistler and exploring Vancouver. You can easily spend more or less time at either location, just chat to a member of our team.

Day 1

Fly from the UK to Vancouver. Take a scenic two-hour transfer along the Sea-to-Sky Highway past the shimmering sea and snow-capped mountains to Whistler Village. Check into your accommodation, relax and freshen up before heading out to Whistler’s many restaurants for dinner.

Day 2

Start your skiing holiday by exploring the great selection of runs local to Whistler, perfect for all abilities. We highly recommend joining the free Mountain Host Tour - it's a brilliant way to get your bearings and discover hidden gems only the locals know.

Day 3

If it’s a clear day, head straight to Peak Chair for impressive views of The Black Tusk and discover one of North America’s longest ski runs. Advanced skiers will love The Saddle or Shale Slope, a sweeping bowl with fantastic views. When it’s time to refuel, stop for some fine dining at Steeps Grill, at the top of the Whistler Gondola.

Day 4

It’s time to explore Blackcomb. For intermediate skiers wanting to blast down wide runs, hop on the Crystal Ridge Express and cruise down wide, rolling runs like Ridge Runner and Rock N' Roll. For lunch, we love the laid-back vibe at Glacier Creek Lodge.

Day 5

On the Whistler side of the resort, chase powder and immaculately groomed pistes in the stunning Harmony Bowl. Advanced skiers: drop into Gun Barrels, on the ridge of Harmony Bowl, and dive into a black diamond tree-lined gulley. Trust us, it’s unforgettable.

Day 6

If you’re looking for quieter slopes, ride the Garbanzo Express to discover peaceful mid-mountain pistes. Then take the iconic Peak 2 Peak Gondola across to Blackcomb and ski down from the Jersey Cream chair - this is Whistler from a whole new perspective.

Day 7

Save the best for last: ski the legendary Blackcomb Glacier, a 10km run through awe-inspiring scenery. Celebrate your ski week in style at Merlin’s Bar & Grill, or toast to an epic trip with nachos and beer at Longhorn Saloon in the heart of Whistler Village.

Day 8

Say goodbye to the mountains and head back down the Sea-to-Sky Highway to Vancouver. Check into your accommodation, and head to the harbour for drinks and a lovely view across the water of Stanley Park and the mountains beyond. When it’s time for dinner, you’ll be spoilt for choice - from fresh seafood, premium steaks, to incredible asian cuisine.

Day 9

If the way to your heart is via your stomach, then water taxi to Granville Island Market to browse the food and craft stalls - dining tours can be booked too if you wish to sample the best bits. Stanley Park is another must-see. Rent bikes and ride the Seawall, a 10-kilometre path that runs past beaches and temperate rainforest. From here, you're not far from the aquarium either. If you fancy something extra special, book a seaplane flight for a bird’s-eye view of the Sea-to-Sky Highway and the city.

Day 10

Take the free shuttle from downtown to the Capilano Suspension Bridge for breathtaking rainforest views, lit up with fairy lights in winter and home to wild bald eagles. Or stroll the cobbled streets of Gastown, filled with artisan galleries, cool cafés, and local boutiques. This area ajoins Yaletown too - a great spot for drinks. If possible, grab tickets for an evening hockey game and experience the electric atmosphere.

Day 11

With a few hours to spare after hotel check-out, there's time to explore attractions like the botanical gardens or Lookout Tower. Hotels can store your bags after check-out, so no need to carry your luggage. Need some retail therapy? Visit Robson Street, Vancouver's answer to London's Oxford Street. And, with the airport a 30-minute SkyTrain ride away, you could instead visit McArthurGlen Designer Outlet, one stop from the airport, for a final shopping spree.
