Snow Camp

Transforming the lives of young people through snowsports

Since 2012, Ski Safari has given Snow Camp a total of:

£262,500

Through ongoing annual donations and fundraising

Through our partnership with the UK charity Snow Camp, we proudly support the valuable work they do, giving disadvantaged 13 to 21-year-olds from all walks of life the opportunity to change their lives for the better! Students start their journey as apprentice snowsports instructors, with many progressing onto NVQ and BASI qualifications, while also developing new skills and building confidence to take into their next life chapter.

What’s it all for?

For most of us, setting out on a cold, crisp morning in the mountains, clipping in and looking ahead at slopes coated in pristine snow, weaving through perfect powder, the buzz of conquering a tough run - these are feelings we are familiar with, right?

However, for many young people in the UK, even visiting a winter destination and stepping onto snow is unthinkable, let alone learning to ski or board or experiencing the world of snowsports with like-minded people.

This is where Snow Camp steps in, and their mission is simple: to give young people from disadvantaged backgrounds the opportunity to participate in snowsports. They give students a safe space to:

  • develop critical life skills
  • gain career-changing qualifications, and,
  • leverage Snow Camp’s mental health and well-being support.

Working with 13 to 21-year-olds in London, the Midlands, the North West and Scotland, Snow Camp offers programmes designed to take young people from complete beginner-level skiers to qualified snowsports instructors.

Once they have completed the first programme, progression routes include volunteering and an apprenticeship. Participants can also access Snow Camp’s life skills training and mental well-being sessions.

Giving back

Passionate about the snowsports industry, we want to work with people who share our values, give something back to the community, and inspire future generations. Snow Camp and Ski Safari have worked closely together for more than a decade, and we are proud to support their extraordinary work.

Our founder, Richard Rice, who previously participated in the 3 Valley Rally to raise money for Snow Camp (winning in 2024 and runner-up in 2023), reflects:

“It's important to me that we support a charity working in an area that is close to what we do. We've known Dan and the team for a long time, and they do a great job - and they are local too!

I'm proud that our donations have been able to help Snow Camp continue its excellent work over the years.”

Supporting Snow Camp over the years

2015 - £50,000 donated to launch Snow Camp Bristol

In June 2015, Snow Camp launched a fundraising campaign to change the lives of 5000 inner-city young people, with the expansion of their programme to five new cities across the UK. The first of these city initiatives was Bristol, and in support, Ski Safari pledged £50,000 to help Snow Camp get Bristol off the ground.

2017 - £125,000 towards a three-year development fund

In October 2017, Ski Safari announced a funding partnership with Snow Camp to support their long-term strategy of infrastructure improvements, providing more access to life-skill coaching for young people through snowsports.

2012 to 2025 (and beyond) - ongoing yearly donations

Regular donations to Snow Camp are critical, as without constant support from businesses such as ours, Snow Camp wouldn't be able to do what they do best! It's that simple. Each year, we carve out a pot of money which is dedicated solely to Snow Camp. Apart from the COVID-19 pandemic year, which was a difficult year for us all in so many ways, we have been able to send a sizeable donation to Snow Camp annually, and we have no intention of stopping!

How Snow Camp is changing lives

In the last two decades, Snow Camp has engaged over 22,000 inner-city young people in snowsports. In 2024 to 2025 alone, they supported over 1,100 young people, facilitating a total of:

  • 600+ mental well-being sessions
  • 1,700+ qualifications
  • 10,000+ youth and returner-led volunteer hours
  • 25 work placements in the snowsport industry

Hearing from some recent Snow Camp graduates, here are their stories...

Meet Louis: harassed and attacked by bullies, he now feels he can achieve anything!

"I always thought that I would get nowhere in life, and then to do that...I always thought even that was out of reach, so I can definitely feel like I can achieve anything now." - Louis, Snow Camp alumnus

Haider - Snow Camp success story

Meet Haider: from a childhood in care, to Aspiration Award winner

Haider was referred to Snow Camp by Manchester's Children in Care Services, and had struggled with instability, disrupted education and inconsistent support.

Snow Camp opened a door he never imagined could exist. Not only discovering a new passion for snowboarding, but a community of friends and supporters who understood his story and encouraged his progress.

Through Snow Camp, Haider found self-confidence, new skills and set goals for his future. After joining the Snow Camp Apprenticeship, he won the Aspiration Award at the Manchester Achievements Awards Ceremony and is now studying to become a qualified instructor.

“Snow Camp helps me take my mind off everything. When I’m snowboarding, I forget about it all and I have made nice friends, people with the same background as me, something I never thought I would do in my life. At Snow Camp, I know the people will help me to try my best and will help me.” - Haider, Snow Camp alumnus

Daveena - Snow Camp success story

Meet Daveena: former care leaver to inspirational speaker at national conferences

Daveena’s journey began with Snow Camp, where she discovered the power of snowsports to build confidence and life skills.

Recently, Daveena shared her story of being a care leaver, passionately highlighting the need to challenge stereotypes and stigma on ITV.

Today, she’s using her voice to inspire change, speaking at national conferences, meeting MPs, and even knocking on the door of 10 Downing Street!

“Being a care leaver, there are certain stereotypes, stigmas and statistics I would like to not conform too, I refuse to be a tick box to the system. But I didn’t realise that would lead to Snow Camp. I’m a Desi girl from Sandwell and Birmingham, skiing in the mountains isn’t something people like me do. But I did that and that’s just amazing.” - Daveena, Snow Camp alumnus
