A former Olympic host, this wooded resort has the biggest vertical drop in Norway. For a tranquil retreat, it’s a great discovery.

Less than two hours from Oslo, the little resort of Norefjell (pronounced Nora-Fee-Yell) hosted the Winter Olympics in 1952. Since then, it’s stayed relatively under the radar - we think it’s well worth rediscovering.

In a wooded section of the Scandes Mountains, the ski area has Norway’s greatest vertical drop - you can ski all the way from the summit to fjord below. Although the black pistes are some of Norway’s steepest, most of the terrain is better suited to beginners and improvers. And with the ski school managed by Norway's former national ski team coach, learners are in good hands.

The ski-in ski-out accommodation sits at mid-altitude, so you can slide downhill each morning, or catch a lift to the summit. Off the slopes, the focus is on winter activities - such as ice-skating and indoor climbing - rather than après drinking. This makes ski holidays in Norefjell a great choice for families.

Every holiday is tailor-made, just for you.

An excellent resort, the only downside being the number of button and T bar lifts, however I had read previous reviews of the resort and was expecting this. A great family resort. The ski instructors were excellent, English speaking and patient and the children loved their lessons.

Spa hotel and ski area absolutely fantastic for family ski trips. Facilities were excellent at the hotel, food at buffet was also good quality. Skiing very enjoyable for all the family just about enough to for one week. Two drag lifts out from hotel to main area slowed us down a little especially with only 90 mins of non children skiing whilst they were in the lesson, meant we had to rush back as soon as we were over the other side.

We were looking for an easy first family ski trip option and feel Norefjell was a great recommendation from you. It fitted the bill perfectly for us - thank you.

Powder Weekend in Norway

29th January 2019 - Craig Charley

This past weekend has seen bumper snowfall in Norway - up to half a metre in places - resulting in heaps of fun on the slopes. Sadly, none of our team were there to enjoy it, but we've heard great things from our customers and from the resorts themselves. Geilo 'Magical' is the right word to...
