Just beyond Oslo, there are a number of ski resorts that offer a variety of terrain suitable for all ability levels. With an average two-and-a-half-hour transfer time between these resorts and Oslo, plus a short internal flight to Tromsø, we’ll make sure your ski safari journey is smooth on and off the slopes, from start to finish.

Nearest to Oslo is Norefjell, at only two hours away. This former Olympic host holds the title of Norway’s biggest vertical drop and has some challenging black runs! Yet, this humble resort has wonderfully diverse, fun terrain for every level of skier. We're talking beautifully wide pistes, with space to coast and enjoy the lake views, to ample powder areas that track beside groomed runs or weave off into the pines. Slopes here are quiet too, even during supposed busy periods, making it a great destination for new skiers 'in training'. The 4* Norefjell Ski & Spa Hotel is the perfect base where you can enjoy soothing treatments or hot tub soaks – the best way to end a long day on the slopes.

Located between fjords, mountain peaks and islands above the Arctic Circle, Tromsø offers one of the highest probabilities of experiencing the northern lights in the world. While its extreme northerly location may conjure up images of truly Arctic conditions, Tromsø enjoys a much milder climate than you may expect compared to its neighbours at the same latitude.

The Gulf Stream keeps the city’s temperature at a balmy average of around -5.0°C, even in the depths of winter. This means you can enjoy a wonderful range of outdoor winter activities without requiring truly specialist outdoor gear. You’ll also be able to experience the vibrant nightlife and enjoy local food, with fresh seafood being one of the many highlights.

Whilst we recommend Norefjell for its variety of terrain, great accommodation, and peaceful atmosphere, you could very easily swap or add a second resort to your trip. Resorts such as Beitostølen, Gausta, Geilo, Hafjell, Hemsedal, Kvitfjell and Trysil all work well.

"This is an unforgettable trip allowing you to explore a range of world-class experiences both on and off the slopes. The highlight for many being the chance to get a glimpse of the mystical Aurora Borealis."

This sample itinerary is our suggestion of how you could divide your time between Norefjell and Tromsø. All our ski safaris are completely customisable, whether that means more skiing, more sightseeing, or pairing the city of Tromsø with a different resort or even more than one resort.
