From February to May, the Lapland region of the Arctic Circle receives plenty of natural snow. For the unique Scandinavian resorts located here, that means reliable conditions, all season long. So much so that Riksgränsen is known as the 'Spring Skiing Capital of Europe'.
Narvik, with its vast backcountry, is a true polar playground! It has plenty of easy-to-access off-piste powder and incredible coastal views. The stunning wilderness that surrounds the resort is best appreciated with a local ski guide. Narvik is also one of the best Norwegian locations for potential Northern Lights sightings, which dance above the fjord. You can also combine other incredible experiences, such as dog sledding, meeting the Sami people and their reindeer, and visiting bears, wolves, lynx and other native animals at the nearby Polar Park Wildlife Centre.
Riksgränsen, just across the border in Sweden, is the world's most northern ski resort. It offers endless off-piste terrain and it’s a heli-skier's heaven. The drop zone is bigger than the Netherlands! The area is famous for its excellent powder, which you can access from the pistes, plus there are great guiding options for the intrepid explorer. The resort is so revered for its technical terrain, some of the world's best freeriders come here for the annual Scandinavia Big Mountain Championships. You’re also close to the Abisko National Park and its Aurora Sky Station, one of the best places in the world to experience the Northern Lights.
To travel between Riksgränsen and Narvik, we recommend riding the Arctic Train. This exciting journey is an attraction in itself as you rumble along, passing incredible panoramic views of the mountains and fjords, whilst accompanied by an English-speaking guide.
Daily shuttles also run between Narvik (Norway), Riksgränsen (Sweden) and neighbouring Björkliden (Sweden). These are all covered by your Arctic Pass, giving you flexibility to explore all this magical region has to offer.
Combine all these Arctic resorts and experiences on an epic ski safari you won't forget!
