Åre and the Arctic Ski Safari
This sample itinerary is our suggestion of how you could divide your time between piste skiing, heli-skiing and other Arctic attractions.
Fly from the UK to Trondheim and take the 2 hour 30 minute shuttle bus to Åre. Beside a lake, Åre is Scandinavia’s largest resort and makes an excellent base for five days of skiing. Here, you can enjoy rolling slopes and tree-lined runs, or hire a guide and head off-piste. On your final evening, you’ll board the sleeper train and journey north of the Arctic Circle.
Wake up in the world’s most northerly ski resort, Riksgransen, for three days of heli-skiing and mountain touring. This is prime Northern Lights territory, so there’s a high chance they’ll put on a show while you’re here. If heli-skiing isn’t for you, Björkliden’s all-abilities ski area could be a better choice. Here, there’s more choice of slopes, while the experienced can head off-piste.
Travel two hours by road to the original ICEHOTEL®. Go dog sledding across the snow and sleep in an ice-sculpted room. Stay up late to watch for the Northern Lights. From here, it’s a 20-minutes transfer to Kiruna airport for your flight home.
