The drive between resorts through Buskerud county is spectacular, passing forested valleys, vast lakes and snow-covered mountains. The roads are gentle, and with the longest journey just 3.5 hours, you won't be cutting into your skiing time.

When you're not skiing or relaxing in the spa, there are plenty of other activities to try at your own pace, including dog sledding, tobogganing and snowshoeing.

Suggested itinerary

We’ve put together our suggestion of how to combine some of Norway’s best ski resorts and attractions. All our ski safaris are completely tailor-made and can be adjusted to suit your preferences.

Day 1

Fly direct into Oslo Gardermoen from London, Manchester or Edinburgh and pick up your rental car at the airport. With a morning flight, it’s an easy afternoon’s drive to Geilo.

Days 2 to 4

Ideal for beginners and nervous intermediates, Geilo has plenty of winter activities to keep non-skiers happy. Stay at the ski-in ski-out 4*+ Vestlia Resort, a Ski Safari customer favourite and World Travel Awards winner in 2012 and 2013. Along with a luxurious adults-only spa (payable locally), there's a separate family pool and kids' soft play area.

Days 5 to 8

Drive to Norefjell where you'll discover a tranquil resort, little known among British skiers. Featuring Norway's greatest vertical drop, you can ski all the way from the summit to the fjord below, taking in spectacular alpine views on your way down. Triple award winner in the World Travel Awards, the 4*+ Norefjell Ski & Spa offers a relaxing indoor/outdoor spa area spread over two floors (payable locally), along with a climbing wall and a toboggan run for the more adventurous.

Day 9

Drop the car off at the airport and head home or take the express train into the city to end your ski safari with a night or two in Norway's capital, Oslo, staying at the luxurious 5* spa hotel The Thief (spa payable locally). Located close to the city centre in Oslo's waterfront area, The Thief is an excellent base for exploring the world-class museums and galleries and vibrant café and bar culture. That's if you can pull yourself away from resting your ski legs in the spa!
