Connecting Canada's east and west coasts, Highway 1 is the world's longest national road and provides easy access to some of British Columbia and Alberta's best skiing in Sun Peaks, Revelstoke and Banff.

Driving to each ski area is a breeze. After landing in Kamloops, you'll pick up your car and drive 50 minutes to Sun Peaks. With varied terrain spread across three mountains, Sun Peaks is the perfect 'warm-up' resort for this trip.

It's then around three hours to Revelstoke, a resort renowned for raising pulses. We recommend hiring a guide for your first day to get the most out of your time in this powder paradise as there's so much to explore, including a vast cat and heli-ski area!

You'll finish your trip in the bustling town of Banff, home to over 100 bars and restaurants and three nearby ski areas, including our personal favourite, Lake Louise. Just 40 minutes from Banff (along Highway 1 of course!), is Canada's third-largest ski area and the backdrop alone makes it a must-visit resort for any serious skier or snowboarder.

These resorts are not just conveniently placed along Canada's main highway, they're all also conveniently featured on the Ikon Base Pass so you save on the cost of skiing too. 5 days in each are covered by the Ikon Base Pass, or you can upgrade to the full Ikon Pass for 7 days in each.

"The Highway 1 Ski Safari combines three of the best resorts and skiing that Canada has to offer and they are all covered on the Ikon Base Pass to make things simple. Hit the highway and the dream begins..."

Suggested Itinerari

Our sample 14-day itinerary is just one suggestion of how you could spend your time touring Highway 1. To get the most out of your trip, we suggest dividing your time equally in each resort to help you warm up, challenge yourself and relax.

Day 1

Fly from the UK to Kamloops Airport via Calgary or Vancouver. Once you've picked up your rental car, it's a short and straightforward 50-minute drive to Sun Peaks.

Day 2 to 5

Find your ski legs again on your first day with Sun Peaks' reliably good ski school. From there, you can choose to keep improving your technique with a skills camp in preparation for Revelstoke or spend your time skiing the steeps on Tod Mountain, cruisers on Sundance and glades on Morrisey. There's also an exciting range of non-skiing activities in the charming village including a skating rink.

Day 6

In the morning, head back to Kamloops to start your journey along the scenic Highway 1 to Revelstoke. The drive should take around 3.5 hours to complete, and there's plenty of time to stop to admire the views or grab a bite to eat at a diner.

Day 7 to 10

Next up is a resort which attracts passionate skiers from across the globe and is bound to get your heart pumping. Revelstoke has a magnificent backcountry to explore, however, we always recommend hiring a guide for your first day to scope out the best areas for your ability and get to know the mountain better. Whilst you're here, why not get an extra fix of fresh powder by cat-skiing with K3 Cat Ski? There's no better feeling than being off-the-beaten-track with the mountain and untouched powder all to yourself!

Day 11

Time to head to your next resort, Banff, which is a further 3.5-hour drive along Highway 1. Around 20 minutes after you pull out of Revelstoke, you'll be driving through Glacier National Park on a road called "Rodgers Pass". There's plenty of wildlife on this stretch of road, including bears and mountain goats in beautiful ancient forests with old cedars and alpine meadows.

Days 12 to 14

Using Banff as your base, you'll spend the next three days skiing the 'Big 3' resorts. Mount Norquay (the smallest) is the closest, while Sunshine Village is where you’ll most likely spend the bulk of your time. The largest ski area of the three, Lake Louise, is a 40-minute drive back along Highway 1 but is worth it for the diverse terrain. Banff is the perfect resort to finish your epic adventure. The town has a real buzz to it with a friendly après scene. Soothe any potential aches in the hot springs and enjoy non-skiing activities on rest days.

Day 15

Drive 1.5 hours to Calgary Airport for your direct flight home.
