With phenomenal amounts of champagne powder, Kicking Horse and Revelstoke are home to some of Canada’s steepest terrain. If you love your skiing steep and deep, this is the ultimate ski safari.

Kicking Horse holds legendary status in British Columbia. You’ll find the best powder in its four alpine bowls, while 80% of the pistes are graded intermediate to expert. Another thing this resort does well is lift access - the main gondola is right by the village, so it’s easy to hop on in the morning for first tracks.

A stunning drive through Glacier National Park, Revelstoke receives more than 12 metres of snow each year and can also boast having the most vertical in North America. Half-a-million acres of heli-skiing is available from the base, plus cat-skiing with K3.

On your final day, we recommend a night in Banff. With its bustling vibe and excellent restaurants, this national park town a great place to spend your last evening, and puts you within easy reach of the airport.

Suggested itinerary

This sample itinerary is our suggestion of how you could divide your time between the two resorts.

Day 1

Fly to Calgary and pick up your hire car - it's a 3-hour drive to Kicking Horse. We would recommend pulling into the supermarket in Golden to pick up provisions - you drive right past it.

Days 2 to 6

Kicking Horse is your mountain playground for 5 days. A day with a Big Mountain Centre guide is highly recommended to get the most out of the incredible terrain here. After skiing on Day 6 you will drive over Rogers Pass to Revelstoke - it's a 3-hour drive but you gain an hour in time zones.

Days 7 to 10

You will ski for 4 days in Revelstoke, staying 5 nights. We recommend booking a day's heli-skiing with Selkirk Tangiers and/or a day's cat-skiing with K3 or Great Northern Snowcat skiing.

Day 11

On your last day, you will drive back over the Rogers Pass to Calgary for your evening flight home. Another option is to spend your final night in Banff to get most of the driving out of the way the day before you fly. Enjoy a night out in Banff and a relaxing morning - you have earned it after all!

If you want to try something different and you don’t mind driving then this a very good way to see BC kicking horse and Revelstoke were amazing, Banff is in the town so driving to sunshine and lake Louise was no issue both within 40 minute drive and very straight forward.

If you want the ski holiday of your dreams then I would not hesitate to recommend Ski Safari. We got to ski 5 different mountains across 4 resorts and had the most amazing time. I was travelling on my own. I would have got a lot more from this trip if I had been with someone, principally because to get the most from Revelstoke and Kicking Horse you really want to ski double black diamonds most of the time. For me that's ok when I am with someone but I got a bit wary when there was no one else around.

Banff: 5 days, Revelstoke: 4 days, Kicking Horse: 3 days. All 3 were good though enjoyed Revelstoke the most for the glade skiing and off piste runs.
