An inspiring adventure, this self-drive ski safari combines Utah’s snow-sure resorts with its stunning national parks.

Utah famously receives ‘the Greatest Snow on Earth’ and you can pick and choose between powder meccas and immaculate piste skiing. There are six main resorts within easy reach of Park City (our recommended base) and each is worth a day trip.

With fiery-red rock and gaping canyons, Utah’s national parks are astounding. Each is unique, whether you want to go hiking in Bryce, biking in Zion or sightseeing at the Grand Canyon. Las Vegas is an optional add-on at the end - a fun way to finish, it’s got everything from family-friendly hotels to 24-hour casinos.

Guardian travel editor Gemma Bowes experienced our Utah & National Parks Ski Safari and dubbed it ‘The Greatest Holiday in the World’.

"For me, out of our ski safaris, this is the jewel in the crown. It combines some of America’s best skiing with an awesome road trip through US national parks. You could even finish up with a couple of nights in Las Vegas. Amazing."

Suggested itinerary

Here’s our suggestion for a 10 to 14-night Utah & National Parks Ski Safari. Designed and tested by our team, it makes a fantastic family holiday, a once-in-a-lifetime adventure, or an unforgettable honeymoon.

Day 1

Arrive in Salt Lake City, then it's a 35-minute transfer to Park City.

Days 2 to 10

Park City Mountain Resort is the largest ski area in the USA. With its historic town and a wide choice of accommodation from cheaper hotels to luxury condos, it tends to be the most popular base for skiing. 10 nights in the resort is the best value as the hotels often offer 2 free nights and the Epic Local Lift pass is a similar price for 10 days or 5 days skiing. We can, however, combine this with a Snowbird or Powder Mountain stay and skiing in Deer Valley is also possible.

Days 11 to 12

Transfer back to the airport to collect your car, as you don't need it in Park City and it's only a 30 minute detour. For a supplement, you can keep the car for the duration of the holiday. It's a 4 hour drive to Bryce Canyon and you can make a scenic detour past the lakes and Big Rock Candy Mountain. You should aim to get to Bryce by 1 or 2 pm, so the sun is at its zenith for the hike into the canyon, which is really easy and suitable for 5+ yrs. Stay 2 nights in Bryce.

Day 13

The drive to Zion National Park is one the most scenic drives you'll ever do. It's only 2.5 hrs to Springdale, however, you should aim to spend the day doing this journey with plenty of photo stops in Red Canyon and at the Pink Corral Sand Dunes (great to snowboard on), then make the most of the viewpoint stops as you descend into Zion National Park.

Day 14

There is so much to do in Zion you could spend a week here (hiking, biking, climbing, canyoneering, horse-riding), especially at Easter when the temps can reach 25⁰C. Springdale Town is lovely and a great base to explore the area.

Day 15

It's a 5-hour drive back to Salt Lake City for an evening flight, which is the cheapest way and avoids any drop-off fee on the car.

Optional Vegas Add-On

For an extra special end to your trip, fly home via Las Vegas for a night or two in 'The Entertainment Capital of the World'.

Customer Reviews

What our customers say about Utah & National Parks Ski Safari.

It was epic! All the hotels were bang on, perfectly located and as one might expect great American service. The parks themselves are mindblowing. I wasn't sure if we would be limited going in March but for the most part this was the perfect time! Bryce looked like more things opened in April (shops and rodeo) but the parks were all on another level! Highly recommend this trip! Although I do sugges…

Wow truly amazing the drive from Park City to first Bryce with snow and blue sky. Rangers at the visitor's centre were very helpful and we walked the loop, breathtaking. We then drove a couple of hours onto Zion, This was equally amazing, the drive within the park with pull in viewpoints is worth it alone. We also did the scenic bypass and did the river walk. Visited in January and the weathe…

Great. Bryce Canyon was amazing. Would maybe have spent longer at Bryce and less time in Zion. Vegas was worth seeing.

Robert Page - Bryce Canyon
After a fabulous 10 days skiing in Park City, we didn't think our holiday could get any better, and then we arrived at Bryce Canyon and Zion National Parks. The scenery and views were stunning and will blow you away. The driving to these parks is also an experience with the Highway 12 to Bryce and Mt Carmel Highway into Zion. We also organised for ourselves a night in Moab to take in the Arches an…

We had great time skiing in Park City area and this was followed by a great experience at Bryce Canyon and Zion National Park and if anyone gets the chance to visit these areas I would highly recommend.

We were going to the States for a wedding in Las Vegas and decided to fit in some skiing. Building in stays at Bryce Canyon and Zion made it a perfect holiday.

The Canyons/Bryce Canyon/Zion National Park. Being quite late in the season and the fact that the resort hadn't had much snow for March it was a surprise to get in any skiing at all. Temperatures of 18/20C during the day didn't help the snow which did get quite heavy by the afternoon. A light dusting of snow on the third day made for a good skiing day but we only skied 4 days any way. A shopping t…
