One for the more adventurous skier, your Ikon Pass includes five unforgettable days of skiing in each of Winter Park, Steamboat and Aspen Snowmass, where you'll carve your way through Colorado's world-class terrain.

Starting in Winter Park, just two hours from Denver, you're in for a challenge right away if you're up for it. One of the resort's Seven Territories is Mary Jane, a mountain which hosts plenty of feisty runs designed to push confident skiers to the next level. As the locals say, "No pain, no Jane"!

After six days, your thighs will thank you for swapping the mighty moguls of Winter Park for the fluffy powder of Steamboat. It's a great all-rounder with first-class glade skiing - all 3,000 acres sit below the treeline, plus a further 650 acres of new expert-level terrain has just opened. Its standout feature is the fusion of winter sports and the wild west feel of the town. A combination which is sure to leave you with that 'once-in-a-lifetime' feeling.

Where your Ikon Pass reaches its pinnacle of providing great value for money is in Aspen Snowmass. A glitzy destination offering a huge variety of skiing over four mountains. The slopes are notably quiet but the town is anything but.

Suggested itinerary

You can do any combination of resorts on your trip, but we recommend a three night minimum in most each - the longer you stay, the bigger the discount on accommodation and the more value you'll get out of the Ikon Pass.

Day 1

Arrive into Denver and collect your SUV for an easy two-hour drive up Interstate-70 to Winter Park.

Days 2 to 6

Ski Winter Park for five full days, staying within the small village area, steps from the lifts. It's famed for the steep powder bumps runs on the Mary Jane side, yet has lots of very cruisy treelined groomers. With a relatively small bed-base, it's quiet mid-week.

Day 7

The drive from Winter Park to Steamboat takes just over two hours and is incredibly scenic. Halfway into the drive, you'll come across the Hot Sulphur Springs Resort & Spa, which is the perfect place to rest tired ski legs and recharge.

Days 8 to 10

Ski Steamboat, home of Champagne Powder® and famous tree skiing through the pretty glades of Aspen Birch trees. The town of Steamboat is 10 minutes from the mountain resort and has a fabulous cowboy atmosphere, plus some great shopping and fine dining restaurants, so worth bearing in mind if you are planning a day off the slopes.

Day 11

Driving to Aspen will take just over three hours. Along the way, there's the option to relax in Glenwood Springs or sample the produce from Woody Creek's Distillers.

Days 12 to 14

Ski the four mountains that make up the Aspen Snowmass range, all included on the Ikon Pass and connected by an excellent free shuttle bus, so you could even ski Buttermilk and Highlands in one day, as they are only three minutes apart. Snowmass is by far the largest of the ski areas, an intermediate mecca with loads of long wide groomers, as well as some lovely glade skiing. The new Snowmass Village has made this area a lot more buzzy, yet being away from Denver it's a lot quieter at weekends.

Day 15

Why not extend your trip and include a trip to a local favourite Copper Mountain, which is also included in the Ikon Pass? The resort has a great village and the ski area has something for every mood, including fantastic powder bowls. We think it's definitely worth a visit!

It was a little daunting to use self drive and that was our only slight concern. However a great way to split your ski time between resorts and this was the compelling factor! We took our time on the icy roads (-7F) but really only used the car on transfer days so it all worked well. Our resorts were great for us albeit we had a very cold 2 weeks and only 1 day it didn't snow but we went for the s…
