Rising above this iconic town, Aspen Mountain is one of its four fantastic ski areas. There are local lifts in town, while efficient buses shuttle you to the other ski areas on your pass.
For challenging days, Aspen Mountain and Highlands are our favourites, while the intermediate paradise of Snowmass is the largest area. Buttermilk is best for beginners and, for snowboarders, the X Games terrain parks are fantastic. Offering such huge variety, Aspen Snowmass ski holidays are great for longer breaks, and the slopes are noticeably quiet.
Stay in the pretty town for authentic Victorian buildings, posh boutiques and a huge range of dining options. The nightlife and après bars are excellent too - Mezzaluna is particularly good, as are the margaritas at Blue Maize. And while Aspen has a glitzy reputation, this is also a locals’ town with down-to-earth options for smaller budgets.
If you're looking for ski-in ski-out accommodation and a more relaxing pace, we recommend staying at the purpose-built Snowmass Village. Nightlife is low key but there are some great local bars and restaurants and the village base has been significantly developed in the past few seasons, including one of our favourite hotels, the Limelight Snowmass.
Aspen Snowmass has more than enough to keep you busy, or you could experience more of the region on a Colorado Ski Safari - ask our Colorado experts to tell you more.
