Take in the very best of Pacific Northwest - pulsating city life, dramatic (and skiable!) volcanic peaks, filmworthy rugged and wild coastlines, old-growth forests, spectacular waterfalls, high mountain plains and genuine mountain town culture.

Every day offers a new perspective, from driving from Seattle towards Mt Hood, taking in the enormity of Mt Rainier along the way (making up part of the Pacific Rim of Fire), to enjoying the stunning long cruising terrain at the historic Timberline Resort, or skiing 360 degrees on Mt Bachelor, followed by après in some of the country's best microbreweries in the uber-cool mountain town of Bend.

This once-in-a-lifetime adventure through the heart of the Cascade Mountain Range will not only leave you breathless but will also provide the most incredible memories for years to come.

"The scenery in Oregon is mesmerising - rugged coastline, high desert plains and Oregon's volcanic ski resorts, Mount Hood Meadows, Mount Bachelor and Timberline. The Oregon Trail delivers a Pacific Northwest punch that is hard to beat."

Suggested itinerary

We recommend a 10-night trip with the first night in Seattle, followed by four nights in Mt Hood and five in Mt Bachelor. As all of our holidays are tailor-made, you can easily add or remove nights depending on how much skiing, relaxing or exploring you'd like to do.

Day 1: Seattle

Start your trip in Seattle with a direct flight from London. We recommend spending your first night here and visiting some of the city's top attractions, such as the Space Needle, before continuing on to Mt Hood in the morning.

Day 2

The drive to Mt Hood is straightforward and takes around 5 hours. Stop off at Multnomah Falls en route, a 611-foot roaring, icy waterfall - a magnificent way to break up the journey and stretch out your legs. Arrive in Mt Hood and check into your accommodation.

Days 3 to 8: Mt Hood

Enjoy the skiing at Mt Hood's three distinct ski areas, the ever-impressive Mt Hood Meadows, the historical and cruisey Timberline Resort and Mt Hood Ski Bowl, famous for the largest night skiing in the US.

Day 9

Take the day to enjoy a leisurely drive south to Bend, with the volcanic peaks of the Cascade Range on your right and the flat plateau of desert, beautifully carved by rivers, on your left. We highly recommend a short detour to visit Smith Rock State Park for scenic views of deep river canyons.

Days 10 to 13: Mt Bachelor

Bend, the nearest town to mighty Mt Bachelor, is one of the coolest mountain towns in the US. It has a genuine feel that many ski towns fail to achieve. The locals are proud of their heritage and even more proud of their homegrown beer - the town is home to 22 breweries! 20 minutes away, Mt Bachelor is a lone peak surrounded by forest. The fifth-largest ski resort in the US, you can ski all the faces of the mountain.

Day 14: Cannon Beach

On your final day, drive across the Cascade Range from Bend to the stunning coastal town Cannon Beach, home to the world-famous Haystack Rock. Enjoy a walk along some of the most breathtaking coastal scenery in the US.

Day 15

Drive on to Seattle for your flight home.

Customer Reviews

What our customers say about Oregon Trail Ski Safari.

We stayed at four different venues, Portland, Hood River, Timberline and Mt Bachelor. The accommodation at all four was excellent. Timberline was on the ski slopes but Hood River and Mt Bachelor involved a forty minute drive through varying road conditions. However, the vehicle supplied was a 4 x 4 so we encountered no problems. Overall very good everything worked out very well.

Adored Oregon. Beautiful state and really friendly and positive people. Despite the pitiful snow this year we did manage to ski every day although it was limited and probably only half the runs were open in the 3 places we skied. We enjoyed the scenic drives to and from the mountain and between the resorts. We had cobalt blue skies almost every day. It was in the 70's (F) at Hood River and Bend so…

We started planning this trip last August for departure mid March. We had lots of different requirements and Andy worked tirelessly and patiently with us to work out the best routes, sights, ski areas and accommodation. We had had a brilliant Ski Safari to California in 2012 and were totally confident in booking another trip. We started with a sunny weekend in Seattle which allowed us to enjoy a b…

We loved it! Thank you for another great holiday and for supplying the inspiration to take this particular trip! As far as we are concerned we have never been disappointed. We have had 4 very different trips with you and because we are open to trying new things, the fact that you come up with interesting suggestions takes the hassle out of sorting something different out. And the staff we have dea…
