With more than 1,000 acres of terrain, Åre (pronounced aura) is a world-class resort. Children under seven ski for free and the tree-lined slopes are uncrowded, even during peak weeks.
Åre’s main ski area has lots of variety, while Björnen’s runs are best for beginners. For intermediates, the rolling slopes in Duved are excellent, and there’s some great off-piste to be found - hiring a guide will mean you find the best spots!
The historic lakeside town offers everything from zip wires and a chocolate factory to a distillery and live bands at the weekends. And Åre’s fifty-odd restaurants are reliably good, from the burgers at Broken to fine dining at Supper.
Ski holidays in Åre are truly unique. A temperature inversion can make the mountain warmer than the village, and the slopes are floodlit until 8 pm. This far north, short December days are followed by long daylight hours in spring - an effect that’s even more apparent on our Åre and Arctic Ski Safari.
