Perfect for a pure ski adventure, these Rocky Mountain resorts are all within driving distance. Starting and finishing in Calgary, choose the ski areas that appeal most, self-driving between them through Alberta and British Columbia.

Most drives take less than two hours, so you can really maximise your ski time. To fully appreciate each resort, we recommend staying at least three nights, allowing you to ski four locations on a 14-night holiday.

Banff is high on many people’s lists, with its vibrant mountain town and national park setting. Jasper’s friendly locals make it another of our favourites, and if you’re a fan of steep terrain and deep powder, then Revelstoke, Kicking Horse and Fernie are a must. You could even nip over the US border to Whitefish or head to Panorama to try heli-skiing for the first time. For mixed-ability groups, we suggest combining challenging resorts with easier piste skiing in Kimberley.

We’ve skied at, stayed in and driven between them all, so ask for our first-hand advice and we’ll create a personalised itinerary for you.

"I've done this trip many times yet it always amazes me how different each resort is. There are so many different combinations - you could create a different trip each year."

Suggested itinerary

Completely customisable, our Rockies Loop Ski Safari follows no set formula. You decide which resorts you’d like to visit and for how long, and we’ll create your personal itinerary. For a 14-night stay, we recommend up to four resorts. Here's how you could divide your time.

Day 1

Leave the UK and fly to Calgary. Pick up your hire car for the 1.5-hour drive to Banff.

Days 2 to 4

Ski for three days in the Banff/Lake Louise area using the Tri-Area Pass. Why not look at starting your Rockies Loop in style and stay up the mountain at the Sunshine Mountain Lodge - a great place to recover from the travel and get out on the slopes early before relaxing and stargazing in the hot tub in the evening.

Days 5 to 8

On the morning of day five, you'll drive 1 hour 45 minutes to Kicking Horse where you'll ski for four days. To make the most of your time in resort and experience the most epic terrain, hire a Big Mountain Centre guide.

Days 9 to 11

On the morning of day nine, you'll drive 1.5 hours to Panorama where you'll ski for three days. We recommend a day's heli-skiing with RK Heliski - the heli-plex is located in the village, who cater for a wide range of skiers, from intermediate and up.

Days 12 to 14

On the morning of day 12 you'll drive two hours to Fernie where you'll ski three days. A trip to Fernie would not be complete without a visit to Yamagoya Sushi - definitely the best sushi in the Rockies (booking is advisable).

Day 15

Drive back to Calgary for your flight home.

Customer Reviews

What our customers say about Rockies Loop Ski Safari.

We did Banff-Kicking Horse-Fernie and it was really enjoyable. We did decide that it was perhaps 1 location too many. Think we’d prefer 2 resorts so just one lot of packing up, moving on and unpacking. The drives are spectacular though! We loved the smaller resorts over the big commercial places for their adventurous and really quiet ski areas.

We went to Banff, Lake Louise and Panorama. We loved the entire experience. Banff is a great town with lots to do. Panorama is an amazing compact village where we stayed under 5 minutes from the chairlift.

Fantastic experience. We skied in 8 different places as we pulled in a day at Lake Louise travelling between Panorama and Kicking Horse. The journey / driving times were good, all the resorts with their own character were fantastic and the skiing (17 days) was brilliant. We were very lucky with snow conditions. I’ve spent a lot of time skiing in Canada to know that’s not always the case. All accom…

We did Panorama, Kicking Horse and Banff. Easy to do, not too much travelling to interfere too much with skiing, excellent combination of resorts. Skied Lake Louise on way to Banff: Kirsten got the passes sent there, so we could ski every day. Fantastic.

In March 2016 we embarked on the Rockies Loop Ski Safari. We stopped at Sunshine Village (3 nights), Lake Louise (3 nights), Panorama (2 nights), Kimberley (2 nights), Fernie (4 nights). The Ski Safari organisation of the trip was excellent. There was an all wheel drive SUV waiting for us at Calgary airport and all of the accommodation providers were expecting us upon arrival. We particularly enjo…

Excellent mix of small town charm (Roseland) and large town amenities (Nelson).

We visited Lake Louise, Revelstoke and Fernie. We had a fantastic time. Travel distances weren't too bad with a stop at Radium Springs to break up the day between Revelstoke and Fernie. Felt like we had three separate holidays with each accommodation and mountain being different.

We stopped in Banff (4 nights), Kicking Horse (2 nights), Panorama (4 nights) & Fernie (4 nights). We thoroughly enjoyed our trip, but perhaps would have spent more time in KH and Fernie, and less or missed out Panorama.
