The Powder Triangle Ski Safari

If you dream of leaving waist deep tracks in staggeringly deep snow and of tearing through some of the best tree skiing, bowls, ridge lines and narrow chutes in North America...

...then the resorts of Red Mountain, Whitewater, and - new to the Ski Safari programme in 2019 - Schweitzer Mountain Resort are for you. With good flights into Spokane, relatively simple but spectacular drives, zero queues, plus the chance to ski in both Canada and the USA, the Powder Triangle is one to try.

RED Mountain is one of those hidden gems that might change your perspective on skiing forever. The terrain choices are unbeatable, the "locals' hill" vibe still exists, the resort is proudly independent, the tree skiing is rightly considered the best in the world, and the $10 a run in-bounds cat-skiing simply cannot be beaten. With a total acreage of 3,850, 7.6 metres annual snowfall and literally never a queue in sight, Red Mountain will deliver some of the best skiing of your life so far.

Whitewater’s tag line is “Pure, simple and real…DEEP” and in our view that’s nailed it. The mountain has an incredible array of terrain choices. From steep, technical chutes and bowls offering the promise of neck deep powder, to wide open pistes and fast tree runs, this is nirvana for skiers and snowboarders everywhere. When you also factor in the short lift lines, great value lift pass and an average snowfall of a whopping 12 metres, it’s easy to understand why we get so excited by this unique resort.

Schweitzer offers 2900 acres of incredible terrain, including two massive bowls, Schweitzer Bowl & Outback Bowl which provides a 6000 ft ridge line with countless lines both on and off piste. The resort can boast an average of 8.5 metres of snow annually and with the nearest city 90 miles away it never gets busy. With the modern and fast lifts whisking you up to enjoy the powder, tree skiing which is often considered the best in America and 1200 acres of designated glades - from super-tight to well-spaced - a few days at Schweitzer will leave you wishing you could stay longer.

"If you want the best tree skiing in North America, technically challenging terrain, blissfully empty slopes, deep deep snow, off piste, backcountry, cat skiing and the adventure of skiing in two countries on one trip then the Powder Triangle is the safari for you."
