Very impressed by Snowmass mountain. Pistes good. Lots of double black diamonds through the woods, limited number of pisted blacks, but lots of decent blues (European reds). Pistes we used were very quiet with little or no queuing, even over the weekend. Tried Aspen Highlands, but found the pistes limited for our abilities - 67/69 years and advanced, but not up to double blacks. For that reason, didn’t bother with Aspen itself as it is even tighter and steeper. Didn’t try Buttermilk as X games were on. Snowmass resort has limited restaurant facilities, but very good supermarket in the village - good for self catering. Excellent courtesy bus service around the resort and down to Aspen. Overall, probably our best ski holiday in North America and Snowmass would suit all abilities. 15 min transfer from Aspen airport is very convenient, as long as the visibility is good enough to get in in the first place. If aircraft can’t get in, it’s apparently a 2.30 transfer from Grand Junction or 4 hours from Denver.

A wonderful holiday. Skiing was superb. Biggest challenge was the drive to and from Denver on rather icy roads, but then again it was winter and we did want the snow!! Excellent resort with well groomed pistes and a wide variety of skiing options and some really challenging runs. Particularly appreciated the inter area transfer of hired skis, which made a huge difference. Aspen has changed since we last went five years ago. Some of the more traditional bars and breakfast places have gone and been replaced by more high end retail outlets.

Snowmass is a fabulous report. The skiing is fantastic for all abilities and the pistes are so well groomed and prepared (for those who want to ski on groomed pistes), sometimes twice a day. Equally, after snowfall, for those who want to ski powder, those non groomed runs are well signed. The 2 sides of the mountain link up to base village, so everything is very convenient. There are good restaurants in base village and the Mall and everything is close by. Lovely places for apres-ski drinks in the sunshine.

Only downside with Snowmass is the lift pass prices. But we had an excellent discount from Ski Safari and the ski field was uncrowded, huge and super sick.
