We stayed in Snowmass for the second time in February. We had such a great time last year that we couldn't wait to go back - and it was even more fun the second time round. The ski slopes were quiet, the lift queues were short and the village had a great atmosphere especially on Big Air Fridays! The free shuttle bus ran regularly into Aspen where we found some very nice restaurants and art galleries. Snowmass had everything for us, slopeside hotels, shops, restaurants and not overly busy - can't wait to go back!

Snowmass is a wonderful resort with a huge variety of ski/boarding terrain. It boasts one of the longest runs in North America, and the tree runs are fantastic. There are several terrain parks catering for all levels of ability and the ski school is superb. An excellent bus service connects you to Buttermilk, Aspen and Aspen Highlands with its highly acclaimed bowl skiing. Snowmass is my favourite resort in the world!

We really enjoyed Aspen and had some of the best skiing we've ever had in terms of snow and weather. We would definitely return but probably keep to March - early April as I understand that it can get very busy in peak times, which I would imagine would involve queueing for shuttle buses, lifts, lunch restaurants (didn't seem like there were very many. So much more friendly and helpful than Europe and loved the gondola attendants who took your skies for you to put in the side and then lifted them out at the top - great little extra.

As a ski destination Aspen is simply superb. How can you turn down the opportunity to ski such a vast ski area with runs to suit all types of skier? Excellent for parties who have a mix of intermediates and advanced skiers. Superb service on the slopes, fantastic set up in terms of polite, helpful 'ski volunteers' and very efficient ski transfer system. Excellent bus service allowing skiers to access all resorts on the 'Aspen; ski pass. Excellent apres ski with a wide variety of restaurants, bars etc. More than just a place to visit... highly recommended.

Aspen is very chic resort with a clean high end feel reminiscent of European resorts such as Megeve or Saint Moritz. The ski areas, and in particular Snowmass are endless and well looked after. A delight for skiers of all abilities. The flight into the (tiny) airport and transfer are effortless and over in 1/2 an hour. After European transfers, you'll love it. Aspen is well worth the journey and you won't ski all of it in a week.

Although Aspen seems to have a reputation of being exclusive we found it to be one of the most welcoming resorts we've been to. We shared lifts with many local people who proved to be really hospitable and friendly. I really wouldn't have known who was rich or famous as it seemed it wasn't in the culture of the resort. The four mountains where not a problem as the transfers are so easy. Also if you ski one mountain one day and know where you are going the next day then there is a service that will store and transfer your skis overnight. This makes life very easy and it was included in the price of our hotel. Another very nice touch is that on the slopes they give away sun cream, coffee and snack bars. Extraordinary!

Aspen comes with a reputation of exclusivity and cost whereas the reality is one of quality and service - admittedly at a price - but one which does not leave you feeling short changed. At a cost comparable to most decent European resorts, it is the little extras that contribute to ones enjoyment. The local geography and climate have created four different ski areas which everybody should sample - the reality of travelling between each is rendered simple by a very efficient free bus service, the availability of ski transfer between the mountains (or overnight storage - all no cost for 4 Mountain Sport customers) encouraging you to get around. Add in the free coffees and sun tan lotion at the bottom of the mountain and hot cider and snacks up the slope, the cheery lift attendees (and their eclectic taste in music), plus the free guiding service and you get the real impression of a community wanting you to be there. The lift pass is not that expensive by American standards, certainly not for the extent of skiing and the lack of people. The quality of the grooming is high, the variety of runs enormous and extent of undisturbed snow after a recent fall a real joy. On the question of expense we found the mountain dining great with high standards of quality, service and even good value for money - whilst admittedly lacking in Alpine charm, the overall consistency more than makes up for this (word of warning - avoid the large self service at the main Highlands access chair which is definitely more Chamonix than Courchevel!). We stayed at The Gant which we found to be virtually faultless, with a superb shuttle service and eager, friendly staff. The quality of our premier condo was such that it was a genuine pleasure to order delivered takeaways from any one of a number of good restaurants ( the staff can help and have a menu package for your use) - and which serves as a useful antidote to the town restaurants - which whilst fun and very good are not cheap. We are 2 families with 5 children between 14 and 19 probably having amassed over 50 ski holidays in total – the consensus was that this was one of if not the best we have had.
