Japan Ski Holidays

Deep, deep powder and spectacular tree skiing, bullet-trains and steamy hot springs - expect far more on a Japanese ski trip.

Japan's ski resorts typically receive more snow than anywhere else in the world, particularly on the northern-most island of Hokkaido. Along with this unbeatable powder, they also boast some of the world’s best tree skiing, while the mellow terrain means you don’t have to be an expert to ski here.

Like everyone else who’s visited, we’re huge fans of ski holidays in Japan. Particularly powdery, Niseko is the most famous Japanese resort, while Hakuba Valley has the finest alpine skiing. For authentic appeal, Honshu’s smaller resorts are best, and our favourite is the historic village of Nozawa Onsen.

Culture is a huge part of any trip and the lightning-fast bullet trains make it easy to visit Tokyo or Kyoto while you’re here. It goes without saying the food is fantastic and, from sushi to ramen to katsu curries, it’s far more varied than you can imagine. You’ll also find izakayas (Japanese pubs) and ryokans (traditional inns) in every resort and, whenever we visit, relaxing in the steamy onsens (hot springs) quickly becomes part of our daily après ritual.

Many of our team have skied in Japan and our Product Manager Andrea even grew up there and revisits every winter, so by calling us or requesting a quotation, you're guaranteed advice from someone with personal experience of the resorts and culture.

"Japan is unlike any other country you've skied in or been to before. The skiing alone is world class, with the Siberian weather systems bringing huge amounts of light dry powder - it’s not called Ja-Pow for nothing!"
