Big White is a really lovely resort with everything close at hand. Most of the accommodation is ski in ski out and the lifts are all close by. Even though it does get busier on a weekend, especially as it is so close to Kelowna, it is by no means busy compared to European resorts. In fact, Monday to Friday it was busy if there were 6 people at the lifts and 2 of those were the lifties!! The restaurants were very good especially Black Diamond and once you remembered to convert the dollars back to sterling, they were all reasonably priced. The supermarket though is quite pricey but that is what you get on a mountain. The people in all the establishments were all very pleasant. The only reason I did not rate the resort as excellent was that out of 14 days we only had 2 clear days, the rest were foggy with bad light. I know this is not the resorts fault but it could do with another shorter lift other than the Woodcutter for people who want to stay low.

Two centre Big White and Whistler, both were great but Big White snow is something else, fresh powder every day we were there and even on the cloudy days the visibility is still reasonable. The resort is not large and it can be very cold but there are plenty of warming spots and the runs are not long, but have plenty of variation and loads of off piste. There were minimal queues at the weekend and none during the week. Whistler was expensive but the skiing was very extensive with very long runs, big queues at the weekend but there were a couple of areas that you could ski avoiding these. Because the town is only at 600m there is no problem with altitude but on the downside if it warms a little it is a gondola back to the accommodation. Stayed in Creekside in Evolution, accommodation was fantastic, beware the see through fireplace in one of the bedrooms. On a downside several of the restaurants get booked up, so need to book these a couple of months before travelling to get a table.

Small, friendly, but so much open hill to ski on, that it seemed virtually empty most of the time. On piste, off piste, between the trees, steeps, and more gentle slopes too. Never got bored with the skiing, despite only 19 lifts. So very lucky with the snow conditions, and the Masters week was a gem. Food was, as expected, expensive everywhere - unless you look out for the special offers which can mean going to a different bar / eatery each night. Sizzlers, for example, had a "wings" night with a big load of wings with a choice of sauces at half price - nice!
