Opened in 1940 in Utah's snow-packed mountains, less than an hour north of Salt Lake City, Snowbasin is one of the oldest continually operating ski resorts in the USA. In spite of its longevity and its development for the Salt Lake City Olympics in 2002, where it hosted the downhill racing, this gem of a resort has remained firmly under the radar. Its lift system is one of the most modern in North America and it has the plushest ski lodges you’ll ever see, complete with chandeliers and marble cladding.
The 3,000 acres of terrain is exceptional with long groomers, powder bowls and amazing treelines, plus some scary chutes if you fancy a challenge. As the resort has no bed base, it is really a very exclusive locals' resort, so you'll have the mountain to yourself if you visit during the week.
Accommodation is just 30 minutes away in downtown Ogden. It's a very pretty drive, and parking at the resort base is plentiful and free. Ogden is a laid-back locals' town, and it's a perfect place to twin with the equally incredible resort of Powder Mountain - also 30 minutes away. In just over an hour's drive, you can also access the two powder meccas of Snowbird and Alta, or even combine it with a bigger road trip on our Utah & National Parks Ski Safari.
