Park City is very different to European resorts we have stayed in. It's a large town, and has a very attractive main street for shopping and eating, with a sort of 'old wild west' feel. Good supermarkets are open 24/7, which is great if staying in a condo. The skiing was great there too - our first experience of USA service, with really friendly lift operators and 'mountain hosts' who tell you how to get around and where everything is. Park City is an ideal base to Ski other resorts too - eg. Snowbird (much over-rated we thought) and Solitude (gorgeous, brilliant skiing for intermediates and experts). be aware that Deer Valley and Alta don't allow snowboarders.

We stayed in Park City, so had the choice of the local mountain and The Canyons (being boarders we couldn't do Deer Valley). Getting to and from the mountains is easy on regular public (free) buses. They drop you right in the base resort of either mountain. At The Canyons there is a lift office next to the bus stop, Park City is a short walk through the village. Both mountains are constantly being updated with refurbished lifts and mountain restaurants. Piste signage is clear and easy to navigate at both resorts. Plenty of routes to ski / ride for advanced / intermediates and in 1 week we had not run out of fresh new areas. For 2 weeks you may want to consider a car to get Alta / Snowbird etc

As we normally ski in Colorado, Park City was a departure for us. However, we were really impressed by everything the resort had to offer - the large variety of skiing for all abilities, the lack of lift queues, the ease of parking and access to the slopes (we only had to carry our skis a few yards) as well as ease of access to Deer Valley resort. Main Street had a good range of shops and restaurants.

There's a lot to recommend Park City as a ski resort, it's only a pity that the connection to Salt Lake City is indirect. That said, the proximity of SLC to the slopes at a mere 45 minutes is a darn sight quicker than the bus to most other resorts from the airport serving them. With Park City itself, Deer Valley and The Canyons right on the doorstep and served by buses at 20 min intervals, there's no shortage of great skiing and the on-slope services are brilliant, especially at Deer Valley. We stayed at the Peaks and the buses stopped at our door so the slopes were a mere 15 - 20 min ride away. Deer Valley was particularly fantastic. Never too busy with pistes groomed perfectly which suited us 'blue cruisers' but there were also some serious groomed blacks and lots of gnarly mogul bowls and chutes as well as at least one green run from every lift. Best of all, shredders are banned from Deer Valley. However, save your pennies in advance. The $/£ exchange rate crucified us and lift tickets at $83 dollars are becoming pretty expensive although other US skiers tell us Colorado is even more so. As for night life, Park City is stuffed with bars and restaurants. The Utah liquor laws mean some are clubs but the membership fee is minimal to get round that. Don't look for Michelin standard food, there isn't any but that doesn't stop the restaurants being more expensive than the US average. A simple Mexican meal in search of a cheap evening, with no beer or wine still cost us $30 each. A decent meal (no dessert) with wine on our first night cost us $200. Wine is well overpriced. You can always buy a bottle at the state controlled liquor store and pay corkage however. All in all, a superb holiday with brilliant skiing that suited us everywhere except in the pocket.

Despite having less snow than last year we have had a great holiday. All three ski resorts of Park City, The Canyons and Deer Valley were great fun but Deer Valley was something special.Everyone was very friendly and helpful. The Tri-resort pass bought in advance was terrific value - and not available locally. Eating out was generally expensive - you have to remember to add tax and tips! More so this year both because of the exchange rate and also prices seem to have risen quite steeply in 12 months.

Park City is an excellent base to explore Deer Valley, The Canyons and PC mountain resort itself. All linked by free bus service which also connects you to Main street,Redstone and a number of other places to eat and shop in the evenings. The shopping in Main street is touristy and expensive but albertsons, outlet mall, wal-mart, Redstone shopping area are all on the bus route. Don't try to visit salt lake city without a car though, the round trip in a taxi is very expensive!
