Aspen offers excellent skiing over four mountains, with good free transport links between them all, and generally fantastic conditions throughout the season. Courtesy on the mountain is exemplary; there are friendly ski patrollers to ensure that no one skis dangerously, and to help you make the most of your Aspen skiing experience. There is lively après ski in many different bars, and there are numerous restaurants, from the cheap and cheerful to elegant fine dining: something to suit everybody's pocket. Aspen has a glitzy image, but it attracts many who are very far from wealthy; it doesn't have to be expensive if you do your homework. Thoroughly recommend a Molly King Room in the Molly Gibson Lodge; friendly staff, excellent location, a good breakfast (both hot and Continental) - and an après ski sufficiently extensive to replace dinner on occasions! I hope to go back in 2015!

Avoided this previously as I had totally the wrong idea. Aspen is a serious ski area, four mountains, an extremely efficient free bus service and loads of places to eat. Aspen (Ajax) and Aspen Highlands offer a lot of top end skiing, steep and gladed runs abound. Buttermilk is a gentle hill with loads of cruisers and Snowmass is the biggest area with loads of everything. It's never as busy as e.g Vail due to it's remoteness and we could lap the glades all day each time refreshed by more powder! Aspen town is also a crazy mix and you will see furs mixed with t-shirts in both top end restaurants and cheaper bars, no-one cares. If you drive, factor in $25 per night parking, common to everywhere as Aspen won't let you park on the street overnight.. If you fly, the free bus passes Aspen airport every few minutes.
