Amazing, Amazing, Amazing!

Are has many blue and red runs so caters very well for beginners and intermediates, not so much for advanced skiers who might get bored. The majority of lifts are drag lifts. I'm dropping one star as the connection from Bjornen (where we stayed) to Are By/Hugzon depends on the Kabinbanan lift which seems to be closed the majority of time due to technical reasons. So if you want to explore the Are region from Bjornen, you're best off taking a taxi to the Are gondola VM8:an at the centre of Are village. Snow conditions were very good and as I understand snow is pretty much guaranteed from end November to March.

We loved the resort. It was great to be able to ski in/ ski out. We enjoyed our evening meals and would particularly recommend a restaurant called Supper. The locals were all very friendly and so helpful.

Super friendly resort with runs from the easiest green to tricky blacks. The snow was superb, even at Christmas, and there was plenty of skiing for a week, stretching along the valley. It's much colder than the Alps, but so long as you wear the right kit, that's not an issue. The views along the valley and the frozen lake are beautiful. Not many English people here, but everyone speaks English, so getting around is easy. Highly recommended.

Are Bjornen is perfect for families with young children. It is easy to navigate and everything is close together. The bears in the woods are ideal to encourage children to ski longer runs and further from base and never failed to delight our children. The shop is well appointed and it is easy to catch a bus into the busier Are town.
