Brilliant resort for all levels of skier. Great off piste through the trees - worth getting hold of the free Off Piste handbook available at SkiStar which shows all of the possible routes. We didn't even start on the offpiste down the back of Areskutan. Superb offpiste routes down into Bjorn country over the back of Sadeln. Ski school at 1315 works well - allows time for skiing together in the morning and no rush. Also skiing afterwards. Meeting in Rodkullen fine for us, with children at intermediate level. Emphasis in the lessons was on having fun and lots of time in the Snowparks. We didn't explore Are itself much apart from the supermarkets. It looks a little sad in April thaw but probably need longer to find the heart. Travel from Trondheim is no problem. In fact Trondheim itself is worth a visit if guests have longer, being the third biggest city in Norway, even though that means driving 25 mins in the "wrong" direction.

Great intermediate ski resort with plenty of lifts and runs. Smaller than we are used to in France but with the bus service taking us further afield there was plenty to occupy us for 5 days. Some lifts were shut for poor weather conditions so, had they been open there would have been more runs available. Great phone app to alert you to what lifts are running and not. Limited signs on the piste so need to memorise the route at the top but got used to this soon enough. Wasn't too busy (week 20/3) so no queues for the lifts. Lifts were very comfortable and had hoods where needed. Didn't have to use any drag lifts which was a bonus for the snowboarder and could access everywhere we wanted to go. Great restaurants on piste and apres ski at hotel Fjallgarden but it is an expensive resort.

Good snow. Plenty of runs & lifts. All well maintained.
