Would recommend this to families/beginners and intermediates. It doesn't have a lot of higher grade stuff but it did have snow! All the Norwegians (and Swedes) were extremely friendly, spoke embarrassingly good English and we were told by our friends that the ski school was excellent. We didn't queue once at any lift and the pistes are well maintained. Can't comment on the range of off piste as the snow cover wasn't there yet. On mountain dining was good with freshly cooked pasta as well as the usual burgers etc. Do-able as a long weekend with an easy drive up or the regular ski bus. PS They sell duty free (including beer) by the baggage carousels at OSL. We paid approx £9 per pint in the hotel!

Easter 2014 first time skiing for my son who is now hooked. Ski in ski out, empty slopes and no queues at the chair lifts, fantastic tuition - we changed groups so tried a few, they were all unfailingly positive and encouraging, everyone made great progress. Radisson Blu is lovely but would recommend half board not B&B. Don't miss the Sushi bar though which was the culinary highlight. Thanks for the great advice Andy.

A great location for a family skiing holiday. Our children are 9, 6 and 6. Quiet slopes, courteous and friendly staff, locals and other guests. Good ski school with faultless instructors. We stayed at the Radisson Blu hotel. Excellent location on the nursery slope, fantastic food and a bowling alley and pool to add variety. The rooms were clean and warm and the beds comfortable. I have no hesitation in recommending Trysil unless you want to ski only daredevil black runs and party constantly. For a relaxing, enjoyable family skiing holiday this is hard to better.

This was an excellent resort for a first experience of family skiing. The instructors were great (for both the adults and children) and the pistes were wide and well maintained. Even the lift staff were helpful! There were no queues for any of the lifts. There was an excellent sushi bar and loads of things for the kids to do with Valle the mascot. All in all a great holiday and perfect start to (hopefully) many family ski holidays.

Just thought I'd drop you an e-mail to let you know that we had an absolutely fantastic time! Kids loved it and me and Kumar were pretty much back to the standard that we were 10 years ago (the instructor,James, took us down the bottom third of a black on fri!). So thanks a lot for all your recommendations and advice - we'll definitely go back! Absolutely fantastic resort - so convenient with kids.

We are just back from an amazing week in Trysil. Thank you for the recommendation. I think we have all fallen in love with Norway! There were only 800 people in the whole resort last week and we went on long runs without seeing more than a few other skiers. There was fresh snow on four mornings and the skiing was fantastic. The people were all very friendly and keen to help us enjoy our experience, with ski hire urging us to come back if anything was less than perfect, ski instructors encouraging the children to do something different and lift operators helping with one dropped pole!

Trysil is a great, UNCROWDED resort. Enough variety of pistes and easy to work your way across the various parts of the mountain. Lots of t-bars and button lifts, but even as a snowboarder these were easy to use (thanks to some very helpful operators!). Loved the whole experience - very different to the Alps. Scenery not as impressive as the Alps, but still beautiful in a different way. The best thing - no queues at all and it is like having the mountain to yourself.
