The resort offers great skiing for families and intermediate skiers. It would be a little limited for advanced skiers. There are a number of cafes and bars close to the piste, offering all the usual snacks and meals albeit a little more expensive than the Alps. People are friendly, helpful and speak English. Ski in Ski out was a bonus and the rental shop were fantastic. We were able to switch between snowboard in the morning and skis in the afternoon for our son on each day of the holiday - Skis and Board were prepared properly every time we swapped (re-waxed and cleaned). Ski/snowboard school was great with English speaking guides.

Good resort to accommodate all types of skiers, very friendly. Not much off-piste skiing but the groomed runs were perfectly done.

The resort was excellent. Skiing was of a very high standard with a good mixture of runs. The greens weren't too slow which saved us poling ourselves along. Reds and blacks were a joy to ski. Black run 28 was our favourite! Will definitely be back and hopefully soon. Norway is a stunningly beautiful country.

Trysil is an excellent resort if you like well maintained, well groomed runs and don't mind jumping on the occasional button or T-bar lift alongside the several chair lifts. Ski-out involved a short button lift up to the first chair, but this is no great problem at all, so it shouldn't put anyone off. In mid January the conditions were great, occasionally fresh snow and temperatures between -9 and -5C but this meant no freeze/thaw and therefore no ice - always a bonus! For advanced intermediates the runs were challenging enough to derive a great deal of enjoyment from a variety of runs and it does indeed fit the bill as a family resort, with plenty of greens, blues and reds that were groomed virtually every day. Hiring of skis was one of the best experiences of the holiday (if you know what you want and you have your own boots). No lengthy form-filling; no foisted insurance extras - just how tall/what weight/what skis! It was amazing (!) and as we had a voucher from Ski Safari, no need for a credit card. The whole process only took about 5 minutes - a great start to the holiday. It was much the same at the lift ticket desk. Skistar maintain excellent conditions slope side, with plenty of daily grooming at all levels. Lift processing is automatic by swipe card in your wrist pocket. This means very short start queues, unlike in Canada, where you are delayed by a liftie having to beep your pass. Also, unlike Canada, if you are in line, you get on - no waiting around for friends or family - the Norwegians like to get on up there. Do be aware, if you do have beginners in your group that the Norwegians like to ski fast - they can as the slopes are made well enough to do that - there are no Slow Ski zones as you might find on Canadian slopes. It's not a problem if you are aware of it though, so don't be put off - it's an excellent family resort. The new, luxurious bubble lift to the top was great and very cosy with the bubble down. There are some lovely places to eat lunch and have a drink on the hill and a few places dotted around the tourist centre if you want a change from your hotel. These range from sandwich bars (cheaper option), bar snacks (drink is expensive) to steak bar and cafes. It's all about the skiing here, not the apres ski, which is great.
