Very family-friendly resort, as promised. Good range of pistes from greens through to blacks, and even one expert black piste (although we didn't take the children down that one). There are still a few t-bar lifts (not a family-favourite) but through clever map reading and planning, we managed to avoid them and stick to the chairlifts. All pistes were well-managed and we particularly liked the nose-blowing stations at every lift! The resort itself is purpose-built and didn't appear to have the social life of some alpine resorts but that didn't bother us as a family as we spent our evenings in the hotel, the Radisson Blu, which was fabulous. We all loved the amazing pool for a post-ski swim.

The resort was perfect for a family holiday. We skied with our 12 year old son and although it's not a huge resort we found all the slopes accessible for intermediate skiers and there was plenty of variety for a whole week. Although we are not beginners the resort had fantastic areas and facilities for beginners. The lessons were really great too. We had booked our son on the correct level and age group so he was with a small group of children of similar standard and age. The lessons had 2 instructors and they enjoyed lots of activities appropriate to their skiing level. My son said "The lessons were fun especially the snow park and the ski cross course". The hotel had ski in and out facilities which was really handy for getting onto the slopes quickly and we could do this through to April. We also really enjoyed using the skistar app on our mobile phones. This meant we collected "pins" for achieving certain feats such as skiing before 9.30am, riding certain lifts etc. This was really motivating for us as a family to collect as many as we could. The slopes and lifts were fairly quiet too.

Trysil is well run and orderly, with friendly locals who all speak excellent English. The ski area is small compared to the Alps, but more than big enough for a week of intermediate family skiing. Lots of wide open, uncrowded cruisy red runs as well as fun runs through the trees. Expensive but we expected that, and being on the half board option meant that we didn't need to spend much during the day.
