New and exclusive to our programme for 2026/27, Oppdal is one of Norway's most uncrowded and underrated resorts, despite being less than two hours from Trondheim by road or rail.
It's incredibly snow-sure, and lift queues are minimal - even during Norwegian school holidays, it's not unusual to ski straight onto the lifts. With far fewer people sharing the terrain, many Scandinavians rate it among the best skiing around.
There are four bases and four peaks in the ski area, all linked by lifts. A shuttle bus also runs between three of the bases throughout the day.
The bulk of the pisted terrain is tailored towards intermediates, with wide, gentle slopes that are perfect for progression. The pistes are excellently groomed too - if you're someone who sticks to the pistes, Oppdal is a great option.
Confident skiers will also find plenty to explore. Fresh snow often stays untouched long after a snowfall, and the off-piste is vast and easy to access. Wide-open bowls, playful natural terrain, and sparse woodland make Oppdal a good choice for mixed-ability groups with advanced skiers in the party.
Several of our favourite runs in Oppdal are served by a single chairlift (Vangsliaexpressen), making it easy to lap them time and time again. There are three high-quality on-mountain restaurants to refuel after a morning of testing your turns. Our favourite is ‘The Hill’, with sweeping panoramic views of the town and valley below.
You’ll stay in the town itself, a genuine working mountain town located next to one of Norway’s most beautiful national parks - Dovrefjell-Sunndalsfjella. The regular shuttle bus stops at each hotel and takes just five minutes to get to the slopes. The locals are friendly, and the atmosphere is authentically Norwegian. In the town, you'll find a swimming pool, bowling and even a chance to try curling.
In terms of après-ski (or afterski, as they say in Norway), expect cosy and relaxing evenings rather than busy late-night bars.
The stunning Dovre Railway (Trondheim to Oslo) stops at both Oppdal and Kvitfjell, making it easy to turn your ski holiday into a multi-resort ski safari. Hafjell is just a short hop from Kvitfjell too if you're looking to add a third resort to your itinerary.

The easiest route is to fly directly from London Gatwick to Trondheim, where you'll take a shuttle bus directly to your accommodation in Oppdal (approx. 2 hours).
Alternatively, you can take the train from Trondheim to Oppdal, and then it's a short walk to your accommodation from the station. (approx 2 hours 30 mins). You can also fly direct from Gatwick, Heathrow, Manchester and Edinburgh to Oslo. From there, travel by train through some of Norway’s most spectacular scenery to Oppdal (approx. 4 hours 30 mins), before transferring to the resort.
Car hire and private transfers are options too.

Oppdal typically opens fully in mid-December.
Oppdal is very snow-sure, so it's usually open until mid-April - or at least the end of Easter.

City-wise, Trondheim is the obvious option, as that's where most people will fly in and out from. Oslo is also an option as part of a longer ski safari.
Yes! There are dedicated beginner slopes, with great terrain to progress onto. Beginners and intermediates have plenty of gentle runs to enjoy, while advanced skiers and snowboarders can take advantage of the easy-access off-piste.
