We stayed at the Vestlia Resort for 6 nights in the middle of March and we found it perfect for two "older" first timers ski holiday. After an initial lesson we did cross country only, morning & afternoon outings increasing in confidence with each day. Excellent Hotel for food, pool/spa facilities and having "front door" access to slopes and treks. Hotel staff very accommodating and we enjoyed the less busy aspect of the hotel mid-week. Very busy at the weekend with families and a conference. We were with friends who are skiers and they were a little disappointed in the quality of the snow at that particular week, but I believe that can happen. From reading information there were many other easily accessible ski slopes in the area. We had a wonderful time and would consider returning.

We stayed in one of the the Bardola Cabins. The train ride was lovely - stunning views and very relaxed. Initially the cabin seemed tiny but 9 of us fitted in fine. Very warm - all clothes drying overnight. Slaata ski centre was great. Kids loved their lessons. We got the ski bus to the slopes in the mornings and skied home - cross country track. Don't miss the big left turn at the top. Supermarkets were well stocked for food -20min walk away. Delicious fresh bread from the hotel baker.

Geilo is great for families and offers varied skiing - especially if you go across the valley. It can get cold although we were lucky as it warmed up during our stay (to -5C !). Slopes not at all crowded, even over New Year - and beautiful surroundings with amazing scenery. Absolutely loved it as a resort - having done a fair bit of Europe previously. It's very family friendly and tuition (both adult private and children's ski school) is superb.

We all had a great time in Geilo and are really glad we decided to try something different. I still can't believe how quiet the slopes were - incredible and makes such a difference to how much skiing you manage to do. The snow conditions were as good as I've experienced anywhere, surprising in view of how warm it was but I suspect the lack of 'traffic' makes a big difference. Ski area was reasonably limited and few challenging slopes but for families like us that wanted the opportunity and space to ski together it was great. I hadn't expected so many parks which the kids loved and the was also an air bag, which proved a huge hit, especially when you're not even queuing to use it! Quality of instruction was first class and ski school classes very small - again so different from the Alps and I think kids benefit so much from this.

Went to Geilo chiefly for its ease of access by train and position in the mountains but its an excellent resort all the same. Quiet slopes (in April) but plenty of snow. Great facilities for kids of all ages. Good quality gear hire and friendly / knowledgeable staff. Both sides of the valley have well groomed slopes accessible by minibus or ski taxis. Also recommend the hotels in both Bergen (Grand Terminus) and Oslo (Scandic Byporten).
