We were based at the vestlia side which was great for our 2 kids (6 & 3). The ski school was brilliant - our 6 yr old loved Nina and her magic twigs (gave them special powers to ski the steeps!). There's only 1 short black on this side but there's plenty to keep children and intermediate skiers happy. By the end of the week we were all skiing together, along with some friends, over the whole area. We went over to the other side a few times (hire-car being very useful) and pretty much had the slopes to ourselves. There's a couple of fun blacks on that side and some lovely views. This was our second time in Geilo and it's perfect for young families. There's lots of areas for children to play & explore and gain confidence on the very quiet slopes.

Brilliant family winter holiday. Won't be able to persuade my husband back next year as too small a resort but I am sure he will be persuaded to return for our youngest's first ski lessons. Fantastic lessons for our son. Three instructors between 9 kids on day one and two for the rest of the week. Friendly fun guys and our son loved the lessons. Creche was lovely and we were able to drop our daughter off on ad hoc basis which worked perfectly.

This was our third skiing holiday with our 4 children (aged 6 to 13) and was their favourite so far. We went at Easter and we really enjoyed the quiet, wide slopes. The Vestlia Hotel was perfect for our requirements. Couldn't be closer to the chair lift, button lift, equipment rental, nursery slopes and lessons which made the practicalities all very straightforward. Collecting our equipment was all very easy as it was all ready and waiting for us when we arrived. The train journey from Bergen to Geilo was a real treat and a great way to start the holiday. The ski instructors were great and spoke excellent english and our boys really enjoyed both the lessons and ski play sessions. The Vestlia hotel was clean, spacious, well equipped and we made good use of the bowling alley, pool and water slide. The food was excellent and catered for all our needs really well. All in all a real hit. They are already asking if we can go back. Ski Safari were really knowledgeable and helpful and we had everything we need for a smooth holiday. Thank you.

Fantastic, well maintained ski resort with an outstanding ski school whose instructors were amazing. Patient with an adult beginner, knowledgeable with an adult intermediate and incredible with a 7yr old beginner, taking her in five days from a beginner to a confident blue run skier and jumper!! They always had time to chat and joke with the children even out of lessons. Thomas and Pippi/Ingrid? Mia, Scottie and Nina deserve a special mention. Absolutely perfect for what we wanted. Thank you!! We are already planning to come back.

The kids really loved Geilo and demanded that we come back a second time (and they are now talking about next year!)- and we still haven't really touched on the main resort, just the Vestlia side. Very glad to see a regular ski bus service this year (approximately every 2 hours) as although we haven't used it much it's good to know it's there. The town isn't the most glitzy but has all of the things you need including pleasantly staffed information office and plenty of supermarkets/ ski shops (even a Boots chemist!) and of course Peppes Pizza. Ski Safari supplied a town map etc before departure. Everyone speaks English and it's very relaxed. No lift queues, small groups for lessons, good teaching (we were amazed that our son who is ASD was easily got into snowboarding with a private lesson to give him some confidence before joining a 3 person group), uncomplicated access to the slopes. Skis & boots prepped ready for your arrival. The scenery isn't as striking as the alps and the food isn't quite France but given the price of beer we mostly ate at the cabin. There's free wifi in the base area and they are very relaxed about use of the space (outside of the key holiday periods you can take your own food and drink to eat in the restaurant). Snow was a bit slushy but it's April and still very skiable so we were happy. We have done various alternative activities over our 2 visits- husky sledding, cross country skiing, sledging, snow shoe walking. We may hire a car if we come again to give wider acess to the surrounding area but the kids will really miss the stunning train ride. Best for families and those who want a mixture of activities- not really for those who want to cover a huge distance daily, eat in a different mountain restaurant each day and try the nightlife.
