Wonderful resort for families who are on first ski trip. lovely wide slopes, efficient staff and fantastic snow! Geilo is quite a small resort so don't compare to the Alps. It is however perfect for families with young children who are just learning to ski. The wide slopes are perfect for gaining confidence. There are only 2 main chair lifts but on the Vestlia side but you can access most of the other more advanced slopes from the top. The only thing is there is only 1 main green run and the difference between this and the next 'easy' blue is quite a lot for new skiers which meant we did this green one numerous times with my daughter who was reluctant to try the blue. The other side of the resort is reached by a free shuttle bus but you have to be able to ski blue runs ( quite steep ) to use this half of the mountain, it has mostly T-bar lifts, we only ventured this side once as the timing of the ski classes mean you are limited with time to return to get the kids. Ski school is a little disorganised on the first day but then where isn't? The ski instructors are all very young but speak excellent english and looked after the kids well and by day 2 they were already on green runs and Day 3 my 7 year old was going off piste on blues between the trees !

A great alternative to the Alps if you want to avoid the crowds. Geilo is perfect for beginners and intermediates with a good range of slopes based on two sides of a valley which are connected by a frequent and free bus service. It has a small and walkable town centre with a few shops and restaurants and the handful of cafes on the slopes serve consistently good food. The atmosphere is laid back and friendly. A stress free option.

We had the most wonderful holiday. The resort is perfect for families with first time skiers. We couldn't fault anything. The Oslo-Bergen rail journey was a breath taking beginning and end to the holiday. The excitement of Fagerland Huskys and the Dagali Snowmobiling was just so special and a real must do. We were pleased we had pre booked ourselves before we travelled as the reception in the hotel only recommend the local Geilo dog sledding which would have been quite tame by comparison!

Beautiful small resort in a superb setting, with a fantastic ski school.
