Geilo had the perfect slopes for our return to skiing after 2 years. We wanted a resort with easy and intermediate slopes, no crowds and good snow and we were not disappointed. Our first impression was how empty the slopes were, no lift queues, in fact no need to share a chairlift with anyone else! We were based at the Vestlia side of the resort and used the frequent skibus if we wanted to get across to the Geiloheisen lift but unfortunately the other chair lift at Halstensgard was closed for the duration of our stay so we did not get to ski the whole of that side. We loved the Havsdalshovda area and spent a happy afternoon on the long green and blues up there. Vestlia side of the resort has some lovely tree lined runs and a cafe at the base for a morning hot chocolate or lunch where the prices were very reasonable (by Norwegian standards) and on Saturday they have an outdoor BBQ/Grill. We would point out that early in the week some of the restaurants and cafes are closed so lunch options were a bit scarce but later in the week the resort got more crowded and by Friday most of the cafes were open, eg, the one at Kikuttoppen was not open in the week. We had booked a snow shoe walk onto the frozen lake with outdoor activity leader Nina who is based at the Vestlia resort, she is a marvellous guide and an expert on all things "ice and snow". We used the snowshoes the following day for another walk on our own and would recommend getting out into the forest and lakeside for its tranquility and beautiful scenery.

This our third visit to Geilo and we love it. We have skied a lot in the Alps as well but especially this year, we wanted a relaxed and chilled holiday with slopes which were not busy and no queues for the lifts. It is a different experience to the Alps but Norway has its own spiritual feeling. It was a special and emotional time to be back on the snow, especially after the past two years and we are already planning to return next year.

A very special family ski holiday. Flew into Bergen and then took the scenic train to Geilo. Spectacular scenery on the way. Arrived at Vestlia resort. Impressed with the property and facilities. Stayed in a 1 bed suite with accommodated our family easily. Very clean and warm. Breakfast and dinner excellent with a buffet for children and 3 course set menu for adults. Hotel has a nice pool, water slide and on site bowling alley. A proper ski in/ski out destination. Good quality equipment available for hire and really friendly and professional ski school. Plenty of snow. We had an afternoon husky sledding which I strongly recommend. Also worth trying cross country skiing. Would definitely visit again - planning 2023 already!

Perfect destination for families with young children who have yet to ski / ski'd a limited amount. Ski network is a little limited for more experienced skiers.

Is a great resort for beginners and intermediates. Lots of nice wide blue runs to improve your turns on. Great snow park with jumps and rails and fun slalom course which timed you, great for family ski competitions! We skied at February half term, the only negative was it was a bit windy on a couple of days so that the chair lifts had to close for a few hours but the snow was great, the slopes were never overcrowded and there were no lift queues. I would definitely recommend this resort.
