Plenty of snow coverage with beautiful hills and lake setting. Safe for families and suitable for beginners. Lots of activities. I would recommend the dog sledding. The locals are very friendly and their English language skills are very good. I did not hear of any crime or negativity. This did not get a 5/5 purely because I am an advanced beginner and would ideally want more km of piste (blue runs) to ski.

Geilo, and the Vestlia Resort, was a perfect location for our first family skiing experience. We deeply appreciated the personal attention and friendly nature of the ski resort. We went early in the season and it was quiet, but there was plenty of snow and the slopes were empty. We were told that Geilo was great for beginners and intermediates, however there was a downhill championship starting at the end of our visit, so it clealry has some challenging runs that we did not experience. We would highly recommend Geilo as a family friendly location, with great snow, -15 degrees, beautiful walks around the lakes and a small functional village within a 15 minute walk.

Geilo is a split resort with skiing on both sides of mountain. Unfortunately we were there a little early and not many lifts were open!
