Vatnahalsen Høyfjellshotell, the perfect base for those looking for a backcountry adventure or looking to immerse themselves in Norwegian winter culture.

A hotel with plenty of history, since construction in 1896, the Vatnahalsen Høyfjellshotell has been a popular escape for Norwegians and Europeans looking for something a little different. The staff at Vatnahalsen are extremely helpful and always on hand to give the best recommendations. The locally-sourced food in the on-site restaurant is sensational - featuring locally sourced produce right from animals that have grazed in the mountains surrounding the hotel. Our favourite spot is the Little Loftet Lounge on the second floor - more modern than the main lounge it offers the best panoramic views.

The Vatnahalsen Høyfjellshotell is the ideal location for ski touring and freeriding and is where you'll stay on our Freeride the Fjords Ski Safari, which includes two days of guided ski touring from the hotel. For a gentler way to explore the peaceful mountains, the hotel also runs a snowshoe hike to the Stegastein Viewpoint in Aurland.
