One of Norway's top summer attractions, we prefer Flåm (pronounced Flom) during the quiet and uncrowded winter months where you can enjoy an unspoilt view of the magical frozen landscape.

Flåm is best known for its railway line, a steep 20 km journey from sea level to the mountaintop winding through 20 tunnels and passing frozen waterfalls and beautiful landscapes. It's been voted one of the best railway attractions in the world and is an unforgettable experience, but it's not the only reason to visit the area.

The village is the perfect base to explore the famous Norwegian fjords. Try an exhilarating high-speed RIB ride or snowshoes if you prefer a gentler pace. For the best look at the scenery, head to the Stegastein Viewpoint, 650 metres above the Aurlansfjord where the viewing platform projects 30 metres out from the mountainside for unrivalled panoramic views. Read our attractions guide below for more activities to try in and around Flåm.

It's easy to add a one or two night stay in Flåm to a ski holiday in Myrkdalen, Geilo and Voss, and it's also a part of our Ski & Fjord Explorer Ski Safari which includes a two-hour boat journey through the fjords to reach the village.

"Located just off the Oslo - Bergen railway line, which links the west of Norway to the east, Flåm is nestled between vast fjords. It’s a truly magical place with plenty of winter activities to enhance your ski holiday."
