Super friendly area, lots of varied skiing area. Nice to have a car to avoid the shuttle bus from town and also get out and about for a rest day at the hot springs! Super long queues on powder days, expensive solution to this was hiring a guide (for three days - ouch!). Nice resort though with lots of different areas and options to keep us entertained. Very few mountain bars & restaurants (we have never skied outside of Europe before so this took some getting used to) and strongly suggest that the Canadians are made aware of Vin Chaude! Lots of fun though, and great snow.

Another hidden gem. Canadians seem to know it well and despite Canadian school holidays it is never crowded. The top third of the mountain has masses of powder snow, especially the North Bowl side. Some amazing ski runs and most beautiful skiing between tall trees, at all levels. There are few lunch places, but its rather charming and the Sutton Place Resort is great (we had a kitchen) as it is so convenient. It only takes 5 minutes to drive down to Revelstoke town or you can take a complimentary bus as well. The drive over Rogers Pass on a sunny day is spectacular and also around Banff.

Once complete, this resort will have 20 lifts, right now it has a gondola and 2 main lifts servicing the North bowl and Frontside ski areas. The North Bowl has some great black runs accessible by hikes with superb snow, interesting rock and ridge formations finishing with tree skiing around creeks - watch out for the surprise holes! The root side is much more piste with mainly blue and black runs criss-crossed by a 9.5 mile green road. Watch out at the intersections! There is a range of tree skiing from easy and fun glades to tight and steep. friendly lifties and only a few queues. When we headed off to the trees, we skied pretty much alone. Once the powder arrived, this place came into its own. Resort accommodation top notch!

We went to Revelstoke for the first time as part of a trip including Fernie. The ski hill is a short drive. The resort staff really friendly and ski hire superb, even letting us store overnight in the shop. Geoff an instructor took us on the mountain tour which was useful. The steeps and hike to's are well worth it and when it snows there is loads to play in. Plenty of glades and top to bottom long enough. No lift queues and few lifts. Gondola up and then Stoke and Ripper chairs. Some connector linking these. Excellent as part of a Ski Safari tour

If you do a Google search on Revelstoke you will find various articles by leading ski authorities since it opened in 2007 describing it as the greatest ski domain for advanced skiers that they have visited. The accolades are richly deserved yet amazingly it remains relatively unvisited - indeed we were told that its busiest day this season saw less than 3000 visitors. There can only be two explanations for this: (i) accessibility- it is more than 5 hours' drive from Calgary but less than 3 hours from Kelowna and (ii) the fact that the resort itself still only consists of one hotel and a couple of restaurants. Don't let any of this put you off. The town is only a ten minute drive away. If your dream ski holiday = steep terrain + trees + powder (and lots of it) then Revelstoke should be your next trip. Awesome. Although it is true that Niseko has more powder it does not have the same challenging terrain. Any trip to Revelstoke should include: (i) Its First Tracks programme which gets you onto the mountain before anyone else in the morning; (ii) Its Inside Tracks programme which introduces you to the mountain from the lifts; (iii) cat-skiing and (iv) hell-skiing.
