Expert Opinion

"Sun Peaks is a great ski holiday destination already but give it a few more years, once the second village area is completed, and it will be a superb ski resort. Designed like Whistler with convenience in mind – everything is on hand. The terrain is really diverse making it an excellent choice for a family ski holiday."

"I have recently returned from a fantastic skiing holiday in Sun Peaks, Canada where I went with my partner to celebrate his 40th birthday. Sun Peaks ski resort is a brilliant intermediate ski mountain with many long, crusing runs to enjoy with the odd mogul field thrown in. It is also a great resort for the beginners and has some challenging terrain for the more advanced especially Headwalls if you love steep and very high moguls! I've skied in Canada for the past 10 years and Sun Peaks is possibly one of the best I've been too. Not only is the skiing great the resort is very pretty with some very nice resturants, it's some of the best food I've ever eaten in Canada though maybe a little more pricey than other resorts but I think it's worth it. Would not advise going during the festve period especially if you don't have children as there were many families and the resort was very busy, though the queues at their worst were only 5 minutes long and very civilised. After they all disappeared we had the entire mountain to ourselves which was brilliant. Even though to get to Sun Peaks is long, with two planes involved it was well worth it and comes as a high recommendation. We would definitely go back again."

"Sun Peaks was great, the snow was great, the service provided by the company was excellent. I would check with your bank if you can use your card as the ATMs in the resort are rubbish. The food was for the most part good the deli that sells the bagels is fantastic and fairly good value. We were there over new years 2008/9 and you could still find a quiet piste to relax on. The ski in/ski out is a little poor from the hotels but from the runs it is ok. Make sure you have a warm up run on Granny Greene's as it is a nice mellow piste. "

"Excellent ski in ski out. Plenty of mountain for all abilities."

"A very attractive little resort - pretty buildings and snowy streets - strangely a bit like a theme park. We arrived following a week in Whistler, and were quite surprised by the apparent lack of warmth and friendliness in Sun Peaks. The setting is lovely, the snow is fantastic, the mountains varied and well groomed. However, we found it rather soul-less and this might be due to the quietness of the season (and normally we like quiet places), but one would have expected more of the Canadian hospitality. Many/most of the restaurants and eating places do not open until 5pm which could be a problem, and for those self-catering the little supermarket and its staff leave a lot to be desired. There are several empty shops and premises which probably contributed to lack of atmosphere. This sounds critical, but it could be so much better and could be such a lovely place. "

"Sun Peaks had great skiing on fresh snow (it snowed three nights out of our seven at the resort in March). Fun skiing in the trees for all levels on Mt Morrisey, and empty slopes everywhere. Good high quality apartments at Delta Residences (new part of Delta Sun Peaks Hotel, and building work should be finished soon). Resort is quiet but sufficient restaurant/bar variety for a weeks skiing. "

"Sun Peaks resort lived up to our expectations - good choice of hotel, easy to access to/from the slopes. Ski area had a good choice of runs, perhaps beginner runs were a bit limited. The scenery was lovely but lacked the 'wow' factor of the Rockies."

"Sun Peaks was an excellent skiing experience - helped by outstanding snow conditions every day."

"Great skiing, good hotel (Delta Sun Peaks). Resort is quiet and very family orientated, wouldn't recommend for couples. Apres ski limited and small choices of restaurants. Excellent snow and people at the resort."

"Have just returned from a great holiday thanks to Rupert's advice to choose Sun Peaks over our other list of possibles . Fantastic resort, especially for families, well organised with great website and guest services info. Lots of good eateries, lots of great skiing, lots of great snow too and resort easy to get to. No real queues even though it was 'spring break' - they said it was busy, but after skiing in Europe I can attest to the fact that it was not - we had the mountain to ourselves after that too (we were told to avoid presidents week in Feb to be sure though as it does get very busy then). Great Sports school. Don't have kids but liked the idea of leaving them all day with the ski school where they have lessons and all sorts of other snow activities including lunch for about £150 a week. Ski with guides for free - including world champion Nancy Greene. If you go, you have to try the snowbikes - its a great wheeze and you get a certificate ! Whole trip went very smoothly and was extremely well organised thanks to ski safari "

"We had to queue to have the lift ticket read for all of 10-20 seconds. That was the biggest queue we had except for the weekends when it was all of 4-5mins max. Some times we could not see any one else on the slopes! "

"We were going to ski in the US but after considerable contact with Caroline at Ski Safari she advised that based on our requirements Canada would be better. She also recommended Sun Peaks which we had never heard of and suggested a stop in Vancouver at the end and got us a great room there. Sun Peaks was excellent, great hotel (The Delta), great location (ski in/out) and great mountains that were blissfully quiet. "
