Stayed at the resort at squaw creek in squaw valley during the snow drought of 2012. The journey from San Francisco int airport took about 4 hours out but only 2 hours on return due to lighter traffic. The accommodation was luxurious with helpful staff, good facilities and a well appointed room with a kitchenette. It was situated at the end of really fun blue run, 2 km from the town centre but there were also frequent shuttles to town. It's only failing was a largely tasteless breakfast-in future I would have room only because the in room kitchen was ideal for our needs. Lake Tahoe and the resorts of squaw creek and alpine meadows are beautiful, with the potential for good terrain and off piste. It was largely a family resort with little après ski. Most bars were empty after 8pm. All in all a good resort but wish it had been a better year for snow!

January 2012 - great staff, roomy studio with everything you need. We did our weeks shopping in SF before we left but there is a great supermarket in Lake Tahoe. We would have liked a mountain view and were told we should have asked for one when we booked. We ate out at Plump Jacks one night for our anniversary, a bit pricey but worth every penny as the food was delicious. I cannot fault customer service and friendliness in California, the people go above and beyond, we loved the lift hands comments, our favourite being 'ride em cowboy'! Even though it hadn't snowed for a week and before that months, they managed the slopes very well. This was an unusual year for snow but it didn't hamper the fun. The Squaw Valley Lodge also had a great really hot outside Jacuzzi, so after a day’s skiing it was very welcome. Yee Ha

We stayed at Squaw Creek resort which is great skiing, with its own lift to the main complex but the trail map could be clearer. The whole Lake Tahoe area is beautiful with the exception of the South lake which is much more commercialised. Our favourite resort was Northstar; it is well groomed and cared for, a perfect place with sweeping blues for some easy/fast cruising and some challenging blacks.

Spring skiing in Squaw…. they forgot to tell the weatherman! With over a metre of new snow in 9 days, the conditions were fantastic, although a little heavy by mid afternoon, due to the sun. Just about enough mountain to ski for the family for the trip, with some great bowls and good tree skiing. Head to the saddle, to the left at the top of KT-22 first thing in the morning…it will get your blood pumping! Accommodation at the Squaw Valley Lodge was great, with excellent facilities. Good restaurants, although over priced, so would recommend a bit of self-catering. 20 mins to the supermarket at Tahoe City and you are all sorted. Whilst out in your car, take a right at Porters Ski shop in Tahoe City and take the trip down the Emerald Bay on the lake…breath taking views. If visiting in April, get the Spring Season Lift Ticket ($179) and spend the difference on good wine. All in all, we would recommend Squaw for a family holiday and can not fault James and his team at Ski Safari for the suggestion. Already looking forward to booking next years trip

A great resort -- plenty for both young families and advanced skiers. There is a huge amount of ungroomed open and tree skiing, and when conditions are right loads of powder (although the locals decimate it quickly, so get out early). Very few lift queues, and going in early April meant it was low season so slopes weren't busy. Also they did a great "special" lift ticket deal for April -- an end of season pass (valid from April to end of season) for only $179 per adult. Ski school was excellent, although quite expensive, and the children loved it. Great, enthusiastic tuition. Reasonable range of restaurants. Buying food in the resort is expensive, so self caterers should head for the Tahoe City supermarket. Slight irritation that three lifts were out of action for most of the week, but because of the huge area available didn't matter so much.

Squaw Valley is a lovely American ski resort. The village has bars, restaurants and shopping to suit everyone. The snow is fantastic ( I skied for 9 days and got at least 4 or more powder days). There are many runs to suit all levels of skiing. From steep steep steep to wide flat and spacious. During the week there are no lift cues at all. It's straight sown and straight back up. Saturday and Sunday morning can be busy where the locals all come up, but by the afternoon they are leaving and it's quiet again. At the top of the resort the view of Lake Tahoe is amazing. Overall this resort is worth it. I've been to other Tahoe resorts and it's 20 times better than Northstar and Heavenly! The people are very friendly, relaxed and it makes a nice change from Europe's pushing and shoving.

We are just back from 9 days skiing at Squaw Valley in April 2009. It was awesome! The Resort at Squaw Creek in stunning. We upgraded to a fireplace suite with a valley view and it was so worth it. The views were simply stunning and the suites were very well equipped and comfortable. The hotel was quite quiet so we were spolit in some ways. At times we had the whole pool and hot tubs all to ourselves. Couples and families are very well catered for at this hotel. Staff could not have been friendlier or more helpful. Sandy's Pub had a good atmosphere and the food and service was always excellent. The ski in ski out set up was fantastic. The run back to the hotel was really good and offered a view of Lake Tahoe at the top. The skiing was excellent. We had 2 days of sunshine on excellent snow then 3 days and nights of non-stop snow followed by 4 days of sunshine, idyllic. We were quite content to be there for 9 days and didn't feel we needed to venture to other resorts which shows there is a whole lot of skiing to be done at Squaw Valley. The mountain was pretty quiet so queues were virtually non existent - even at the weekend. Mountain restaurants were fine. The village itself was very quiet. There was not a great deal to do in the evenings. We had a choice of about 4 restaurants to dine in at night and they were quite expensive. Non of the shops were open in the evening so it was early to bed for us most nights. In terms of skiing and relaxing, this resort manages the two beautifully.
