We went as two families on the trip to Breckenridge - high expectations to be met from adults and children alike. We were not disappointed! The Ski school was fantastic with 4 children in 4 different classes having great fun and making brilliant progress with their skiing. The Breckenridge runs are wide, varied, plentiful and uncrowded which makes for a relaxing and unhurried experience. The town of "Breck" has a wide variety of bars and restaurants which covers all wallets and tastes from Empire Burger (really high quality food); Kenosha (for a great steak) and Hearthstone for a gourmet meal without the kids. We would recommend Breck to our family and friends and will definitely return. We'd rather ski every other year in Breckenridge than settle for something less satisfying in Europe.

1st - 11th april 2009 - snowed on first day then just great thereafter. Main St Station ideal at foot of lift but The Village may be better value and also gives cleaning. Please note credit is given on ski hire or lessons not used. Lifts are great and seldom a wait of any time at all at this time of year. Great discounts available at this end of season time to buy all kinds of ski clothes and equipment. Fantastic holiday, we all loved it, 12 of us aged 7 up to 67 yrs. Great wide pistes beautifully groomed, option to go up the highest lift in N. America.

Breckenridge is a great resort if you like open rolling slopes but there is something here for everyone. It has the highest ski lift in North America - at about 14,000ft which will drop you into some nice powder bowls, but it can get a bit windy and scoured up there so check the weather report and wait for a fresh dump if you like fresh tracks. It can get a bit busy here at the weekends and I would advise to avoid Spring Break time (mid march) if you want to avoid lift Q's. If you like blue sky and powder, then this is the place for you. It can be a bit pricey and on mountain catering is a bit touch and go. The town has every type of food restaurant for all tastes and Erics is worthe a visit for beer and apres ski. It is also well worth taking the free shuttle to Keystone and A-basin after a fresh dump. The Vail bus is about $25 - and the Vail back bowls are not to be missed if you like fresh tracks, but take your own supplies to avoid being stung for food and drink!

Our third year at Breck and only just feeling like we might want a change. Great for all levels. A bit busy on Saturdays, but the weekdays are wonderfully empty. Chair 6 great for those moving from blue to black to black diamond and the big bowls a good way to build up confidence; be sure to look for the porcupines in the trees by the chair. Our beginner moved up to a solid intermediate during our two weeks thanks to great lessons. Also sure to pop over to Vail for the big back bowls and to Keystone for some fabulous powder skiing - be sure to stock up at Daylight Donuts for the road trip. People always super friendly. Restaurants good, though devastated that the Cellar closed - Cafe Alpine now the best spot in town. And Eric's always great for a pizza. Can't go wrong with two weeks here!

My wife and I are skiers of different capabilities so we needed a resort that would suit us both. Caroline immediately recommended Breck and we are very glad that we took her advice! We ski-ed for seven continuous days in perfect (if cold) conditions with tons of fresh snow and the best instructors we have ever had - they provided the perfect mix of technical knowledge and fun; I have never heard so many "whoops" of delight during a lesson. The town is is delightful (in a typically American, clean and polished way) with good shops and very good rstaurants of all types (try "Downstairs at Erics" for superb hamburgers in sports-bar surroundings, "Rasta Pasta" if you are a boarding grunger or "Modi" if you like modern US cuisine - all on Main Street) but take a fat credit card unless the exchange rate improves! Except for the best breakfasts at the Blue Moose - they only take cash... If you need to rent skis, go to the shop at the Maggie building, right at the Village at the foot of Peak 9 - they look after your gear overnight for no extra charge, dry and warm your boots and the kids even help you to get them on and off when your legs don't want to play anymore. As to the skiing, what can I say? We were there at the end of January 2009 and the snow was perfect. Didnt try any of the black runs (too old, too tired, too damn scared!) but there are plenty up on the bowls above Peak 8 (via the highest chair in the US - nearly 13000ft) and through the trees on Peak 10. For us humans there are lots of lovely blues of all types - try Peak 7; its all blues and quiet compared to the other areas. And for all those used to the in-your-face rock scenery of the Alps, the views from the peaks will blow you away - majestic, rolling ranges for fifty miles in all directions set against a sapphire sky - makes me well up just remembering it.
