Are is a magical place to ski with it's specular location perched by the side of a pristine frozen tributary which has any number of piste set amongst pine forest cloaked in an ethereal light at dawn and dusk.

The transfer from Trondheim to Are was very smooth and efficient taking around 1Hr 45 minutes. As advanced skiers, the location really suited us. There was a great variety of ski runs and safe off-piste. I would say though that the centre of Are-By is not well suited to beginners, all the runs in the immediate vacinity are red and black. The snow conditions late in the season were great. Are does suffer with high winds though and the upper areas suffered from being snow blown. Price wise, Sweden seemed comparable to Europe. A meal out was just as expensive as on the mountain in Europe. Are By is a great little town, the Bars and Restaurants were really good and the local supermarket was very well stocked. Reindeer and Mouse on the menu made for some interesting choices.
