We went at half term which clashed with a Danish holiday (and Sweden too I think) which made Trysil incredibly busy and not the quiet alternative to the Alps that we were looking for. However, if you could avoid the crowds the snow was first class and the variety of runs surprisingly good. Do try and get up for the early morning ski on Hogegga (Weds and Sat mornings) and the floodlit skiing was also really special.

Perfect resort for our first family ski holiday. Fabulous ski school with lovely instructors and great green runs for the kids to practice on. Slopes were wide, uncrowded and many beautifully tree-lined. We found everyone to be very friendly and helpful. Only negative was the queues for the chairlifts which were quite long, although it was half term.

Trysil is a snow sure resort two and a half hours by coach from Oslo airport. We stayed at the Radisson Blu which is on the slopes at the bottom end and is ski in ski out. From the initial lifts one has the opportunity to go left or right to two different ski areas to the right a lift and then trail takes you to a primarily black run area although there are other runs down from the lifts. In our opinion the runs are steep but easily manageable as they are wide and well groomed however they are not for beginners who are more than catered for in the main ski area. At the bottom is a very pleasant café with seating to soak up the sun in. All in all this is a very pleasant area. Had we turned left from the first lift we would be staying in the main or central area. Here there are runs of various colours for all abilities. We especially like the run down under the lift and over to Lift no. 1. There is also a very pleasant run no. 61 down into the trees which seems deserted, it is a blue but allows one to demonstrate their amazing technical skills! If when coming off the top of this lift one goes left again you can ski over the top and down the other side on wide red runs, there are greens and blues for the less confident, the length of these runs will test your stamina if you are at all unfit. These runs end up at the other Radisson hotel (mountain resort) and if you don't fancy skiing back you can always get the free bus back which stops at the Radisson Blu or close to. If you prefer not to 'go over' there are several runs down from the top back on the original side both red and black they are relatively long and quite interesting. Wherever you ski the snow is 'deep and crisp and even' at least at the start of the day, a bit more uneven on the most popular slopes. Trysil is a dream resort, we dream of going back year on year and have done.
