Hotel we stayed in (Vestlia - your recommendation) was excellent, much better than the usual standard of ski hotel and the suite plus adjacent room worked so well for a family. I would definitely recommend this. Location to lift and ski school also a real plus for families. Norway is pretty expensive but the half board option is great and we went expecting this and still felt overall it was real value for money .

We stayed in a ski wing room which is literally next to the bottom of the slopes, only 50m from the chairlift. Room was basic but toasty warm with underfloor heating throughout. No wifi access in the room (the signal from the main hotel doesn't reach and can be quite weak in the actual hotel unless you are in the lounge). Twin beds were comfy but the pillows were very flat (there were only two of use so we took the pillows from the bunk beds so we had to each). The spa is beautiful but costs 100NOK per person to use. The food in the hotel was good quality but dinner was always a 3 course set meal haute cusine style (goats cheese and beetroot salad followed by roasted cod with mussels and sweet potato puree). They were able to substitute the starter of main if you didn't like the option with something else so were quite flexible but personally I would have preferred to have a choice of more basic meals. Posh food never comes with enough vegetables for my liking. Service could also be a bit slow even when they were not busy. There was a lot of choice at the buffet breakfast and you were never rushed.

Just returned from an excellent week in Geilo, where we stayed at Vestlia Resort. An amazing hotel, we had a lovely room in the spa wing, the public spaces in this hotel are fabulous, probably best described as a modern but cosy hunting lodge! The restaurant served up excellent food everyday, the staff friendly and helpful, spa brilliant for some peace and relaxation after a long day on the slopes and our children loved the large playroom! The slopes are literally just outside of the front door, and the ski school was excellent for the children. A short 20 minute walk away from centre of Geilo. Altogether an amazing holiday, would definitely go back!
