We thoroughly enjoyed our time in Niseko. Other than ski shops and restaurants, there wasn't much else in the way of shopping in the town, unlike Europe. We thought we may get some Japanese bowls or souvenirs. The restaurants were very very busy and we struggled to go anywhere without a booking or long wait- and there were only two of us. Not overly relaxing on holiday to need to book all the time. The buses were good and we enjoyed some nice food and drinks. As for the mountains... We very much enjoyed the guiding with Kenji. He was an absolute hero- he was knowledgable, fun, had us sussed in seconds (both our ski abilities and personalities as a group of people who'd just met). Our day with the back country guide was just exactly the same as the days with Kenji but without the humour! When we asked Wyatt, the guide, what made the day 'back country' he said it wasn't. He seemed to warm up to us after lunch and become nice but before it was rather like he couldn't be bothered with us. We skiied a lot of the off piste and loved it. The powder was quite something! We kept taking different routes down from the same lifts and played around through the trees. It was very enjoyable to experience the Japanese powder but I felt the ski area was small and there wasn't much opportunity for long whizzy runs. This wasn't why we went so fine but I don't think I'd return as there wasn't the space and variety to challenge yourself. I also missed good mountain restaurants with waiter service... Queuing up for noodles isn't quite the same as cheese and wine being brought to you. Each to their own on that though! There just wasn't the option of a nice mountain lunch.

The snow was amazing! Very lucky to have skied a day after 30cm overnight snow. Western whistler style resort with plenty of restaurants which were reasonably priced. The resort lacked a bit of character and is geared towards the overseas visitor rather than the locals.

Excellent. We had 4 days of heavy snow. Great resort.
