We had a short visit in Vancouver (just 3 nights) in March 2012 and we had a great time. We spent our first day cycling around Stanley park - first around the sea wall and then into the park to see some of the attractions. This was a fantastic was way of seeing the extensive park, and some of its animals. We finished the day with a delicious dinner at the Teahouse restaurant, with views of a beautiful sunset over the water. We spent the rest of our visit walking around the city, spending time on Granville Island which is a great spot for some shopping in unusual boutiques and a giant food market.

In Vancouver, we had a FANTASTIC time .. we did a bit of research on the restaurants and these are they ... The Lift (on the waterfront) part of the Monk's stable was absolutely sensational. Expensive but so worth it ....and walkable from the Fairmont Waterfront The Sandbar, Granville Island, we went to for lunch on a saturday when the market is on at Granville Island and we feasted .... I am still dreaming about it! We went to their sister restaurant Carderos (on the waterfront) for an early lunch before we went to the airport - good but not as good as the Sandbar Steamworks Brewery Restaurant was amazing. Delicious, down to earth food for a very good lunch, and again easy walking from the Fairmont Waterfront Our concierge directed us to a chinese restaurant - not in Chinatown, dead cheap, and delicious - can't remember name but if it comes back to me I will let you know. Artigiano's Coffee House for the best breakfast in Vancouver and a short walk from the Fairmont Waterfront but there are a few in the city centre.

Fairmont Waterfront in Vancouver was very nice, although getting a little dated. Concierge service was one of the best we've ever come across - as well as knowing the city, they know BA's website issues better than BA do! Downtown Van is totally dead on Friday evenings so didn't get the best impression of the city as the only people in the restaurant - food was fab though. Shopping was disappointing compared to USA/UK, but we were new to Canada so we've learnt that MetroTown (their main west coast shopping mall) is not worth the trip. Found the most amazing place to eat/hang out on the North Shore (15 min ferry ride from outside the hotel) - called the District Social House on Lonsdale Ave (just behind the North Shore market) run by Paul Mon-Kau. Can't recommend it highly enough whether you're 26 or 66, such a lively atmosphere, great food and drink and delightful host with the cooking happening alongside the bar. Packed out all evening so we ate at the bar which turned out to be the best place to be. Vancouver Waterfront finally came alive on Sunday so we enjoyed a walk along the sea wall to Stanley Park. Whale watching season doesn't start properly until end of April/May and the cost is high ($1000 for the 4 of us) for a 40% chance of seeing a whale, so we were disappointed to have to pass that up.

March 2009.Hotel Fairmont Waterfront this was outstanding. We stayed a total of 3 nights. The staff most helpful they arranged early check in for us when we arrived at 6am after a night flight from Hawaii.We ate out and found two really good restraunts in Gas Town a short distance from the hotel both in Water street "Water Street Cafe" Opposite the Steam Clock and an Italian "Al Porto"at number 321.The weather wasn't very kind but if you like an interesting walk try Stanley Park or if the mist rises a flight on a sea boat all a short distance from the Hotel.
