We stayed at the Clarion Admiral which has views over the Bryggen. A lovely hotel with plenty of charm. Staff were very helpful. Our rooms overlooked the Bryggen and were beautiful. They upgraded one room as they could not give us two next to each other ....even though we didn't ask them to and ended up with one room as a suite which was lovely. The hotel was very central and everything was easy to get to. We arranged for the airport bus to take us from the centre of Bergen to the airport which was really easy to organise.

The train journey from Oslo to Bergen was one of the highlights. The train was comfortable and clean and exactly on time. An example to British railways. With amazing amounts of snow, the journey was spectacular especially in the centre of the country where communities were buried up to the roof line. Highly recommended. We stayed at the Clarion Collection Havnekontoret - although not the first choice, this was a great success. The hotel was excellent in all areas and had a fantastic position on the Bryggen harbour front. We had a room with windows looking in two directions along the harbour. An unexpected bonus was that ALL food was complementary, breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea and evening meal. The airport bus also started just outside.

Bergen was beautiful. Flying into Bergen the views were amazing, it's also a quicker flight from Heathrow to Bergen than Oslo. The Flybussen transfer is easy and quick. The town was beautiful - we only had an hour of daylight left so didn't have much time to explore but it was just lovely. Took the funicular train up to the top of one of the mountains for a great view - it was stunning. Top tip, we were absolutely freezing, so don your ski trousers, gloves, hats etc. as soon as you arrive in Norway! We ate in the fish market which was chilly and expensive, maybe research somewhere else to eat. But I'm really glad we started our holiday here.
