Can I ever go back to European resorts? Spent a fantastic 2 weeks in Whistler, staying in an apartment in Stoney Creek Lagoons. This was a great location, close to a supermarket, boozer and with a bus stop just across the road (although it was only a 10 min walk to the lifts) Had over a metre of fresh snow fall in the time we were there which was very much the icing on the cake of a great trip. Apres is not quite what I'm used to from European trips - people seem to head home and pretty themselves up before heading out for a few quiet drinks. The Austrians still do the best apres ski! Avoid the Long Horn for apres as it charges about 20% more than everyone else for beers. GLC is not a bad spot right at the base of the piste. Not having a language barrier was great, and the Canadians are super friendly. There are plenty of options to choose from on both Whistler and Blackcomb, although the latter is probably better for the more adventurous. Having said that, groups of mixed abilities will find plenty to keep them happy and still be able to meet up at the bottom of the chair each time. I'm definitely going back...maybe in summer with my bike ;-)

By far the best resort in the world. Europe has yet to learn about customer service, and there are few resorts to match Whistler on scale. I spent 6 months living here and kept finding new challenges. Bump runs are awesome, intermediate skiing is all over the place, and the trails are well suited to allow beginners to really feel like they are seeing the whole 2 mountains. Gladed skiing is the best idea ever, allowing you to ski pisted runs in thinned out tree areas, and the bowls are huge and varied. The nightlife is excellent, and ranges from cosy bars to nightclubs. Moe Joe's, Cittas and the Cinnamon Bear are well worth a visit. The exchange rate allows you to live and eat well here without breaking the bank, and the majority of hotels are high quality without charging the earth. They even have underfloor heating in the pedestrian village to ensure a safe meander through the shops - everything is so well designed and thought through in a subtle way. A lot of it you only realise once you have returned home. Everyone should visit Whistler at least once, and to top it all, the drive up from Vancouver is simply beautiful. GO NOW.
