Been to Whistler several times and still amazes me how good the skiing is in-bounds in terms of variety and extent. It has been a poor snow year and below mid-station was very thin and sketchy but the alpine was superb - several powder days. Half the problem is everyone expects amazing conditions every day, every year and it doesn't work like that. My first multi-day trip into the Whistler backcountry just opened up an even bigger playground!

Yes - it was a very bad season in Whistler this March, but we still had a great trip. Skiing was disappointing, with spring conditions and lots of runs closed. I had booked some CAT skiing, which was also cancelled. That said, we had great weather and the resort is beautiful and the people amazingly friendly! There were also some pockets of good skiing, especially on Blackcomb Glacier when the weather was right. Queues at the weekend were bad, though, so if you plan to take rest days, make them Saturday or Sunday. We thought the poor conditions would keep the locals away - they still came in their 1000s. Found some great walks and runs in the forests where there should have been x-country ski trails. Many locals went out of their way to help make is a great trip despite the snow.

Whistler is definitely my favourite ski resort. The conditions weren't great when we travelled (early March 2015) but there was still plenty of snow and skiing on the mountains. I would recommend the ski hosting as a great way to find your way round and meet new people. Even if you have been to Whistler before there is always somewhere different to find. The village is good for browsing and the number of restaurants is overwhelming. Every meal we had was superb and we did eventually get used to tipping! I would highly recommend the Max 4 ski school - I was lucky enough to get the same instructor 3 days running but all of them are great (my husband had 4 different instructors and they were all excellent). Whatever level you are it is good to have expert guidance and a refresher of what you should be doing. The atmosphere in Whistler is very relaxed and friendly. Everyone is proud of their resort and want to make sure you have the best time (which is a pleasant change after skiing in France).
