This was our third visit to Sun Peaks and it keeps improving each year. Fantastic snow helped with 30cm falling just before we arrived, but also both my wife and I booked group lessons, which were excellent almost across the board - two of my three classes were actually private lessons, and the last one was with the most senior instructor on the mountain who normally only teaches other instructors! Tried a new accommodation this year (Stones Throw 26) and was not disappointed. Hot tub overlooking Mount Morrisey, lovely facilities including boot room, only drawback was a short walk into town (10-15 mins) although this was via the very lovely Village Trail most of the way, which was lit both by fixed lights and owner's lights from their properties. All the restaurants were welcoming and serving good food: old favourites such as Bottoms, Mountain High Pizza and Bolacco, are joined by welcome upgrades to the Annex Day & Sunburst Lodges, as well as a new café (Joe Poutines - guess what they serve) in the village itself. Great skiing, lovely people, empty slopes, excellent food and wonderful accommodation - is there anything more to add?

A hidden gem that the locals would prefer was kept a secret, great little village everyone friendly.

Sun Peaks is a purpose built resort in the Alpine style. It is designed for the skiers every convenience. Step on to your skis as you walk out of the hotel and the lifts are a short glide away. When you return the slopes are designed so that you end up back at the door of your hotel. You hand your skis to the ski valet and walk to your room in your ski boots. As far as we could see all the hotels were ski in/ski out, even the condos had ski paths to them. There are no cars, these are discretely hidden behind the buildings, and you ski through the 'village' which is just one street. The resort is small so restaurant options are limited, and although they look different from the outside they all have the same interiors, same carpets, furniture and yellow walls ! We had some excellent meals , Mantles at the Grand was the best , followed by the Sundance steak house. The Annex and Masas were great for lunch. The portions are huge and they quite expect you share. Fantastic value , we were paying about £15 for a good lunch with drinks for 2 of us. The only expensive thing was wine but spirits and beer very cheap! The slopes are many and very varied and also very long. One slope is called 5 Mile, although it measures 3.3 miles, we skied it top to bottom and counted 9 people ! It was never busy as there is only a limited amount of accommodation, not enough to make it crowded. However, this is not like skiing in Europe. Most of the slopes return to base so you do not travel around the mountains. Consequently there is only one mountain restaurant which is like a cafeteria. This is something that took a bit of getting used to. We had a 9 day pass but spent 3 days walking which was an amazing and unique experience. You can hire snow shoes, and with a map walk along some incredible trails out into the wilderness. There are also trails you can walk along around the valley in walking boots which was also really good fun. As long as you don't expect the same feel or history of an Alpine resort Sun Peaks is a great experience. The people are super friendly and polite. We were surprised at the number of people aged 55+ that were skiing, all very well on the perfect snow. In the mornings we would watch the children going to school up the button lift, then ski home at the end of the day!

Loved the fact it was ski in ski out. Especially after having a week of catching buses in Banff. It was nice just to have no time restrictions. Was really good to see different events such as the speed skiing and BC high school championships which gave the mountain a real atmosphere. Even with all this going on the longest lift queue was still only 30 second which was fantastic. It was difficult to find places to eat of an evening if you didn’t reserve, although somewhere could always accommodate us it just may have been our first choice. It was nice to be able to try different activities such as Nordic skiing and the alpine fondue followed by the night descent which was fantastic. The complementary ski guiding was brilliant and such a good idea as the ski area is huge so it helps you to find your way around.

A lovely place to ski and spend time. Beautiful scenery with nice, compact and very friendly village. If you are looking for wild and crazy, it’s probably not the place for you. We don’t look for that so it was perfect. Although the extensive runs are spread over three mountains it’s all very easy to navigate and I would say that there is enough to keep intermediates very happy for their week or 10 days.
